Does this sound like a reasonable score for the Acer Aspire 5920G?
My system specs are
Intel Core 2 T7300
2GB DDR2 Ram
Nvidia 256mb (up to 1024mb Turbocache) 8600 GT
1GB Intel Turbo Memory
It was run using the demo version unregistered at the default unchangeable settings of 1280 x 800.
My Graphics card was detected as "Generic VGA" but I have the latest graphics drivers from Acer.
Hopefully this is a driver issue, as I expected the score to be a little higher. Or am I being too optimistic?
Im not into overclocking due to heat problems that may arise, and would just like to know if there was any other way to increase the score.
A zepto 6224 claimed a score of 3800 with the same resolution however had a lower speed CPU. However that was using a 8600GT with 512MB memory. Does it really make such a difference? 600 points?
*Edit Im using Vista. Were the Zepto tests, probably carried out in XP

I consider that an aceptable score for that computer. If I remember right, the 8600 scores in the 3xxx's when the resolution is around that. I could be wrong, though.

I have seen Zepto scores of about 3400-3500 with an T7300 @ 1280x800. At 1280x1024 they score around 3000. What drivers did you use? I dont think 256MB more vram would make a differance. I am not sure what the clock of your Acer graphic card is. Might be slightly lower then the Zeptos and ILF90.

I used the drivers that came installed on the notebook.
Provider: Nvidia
Driver Date: 28/04/2007
Driver Version: 7.15.11.119
I tried getting updated versions direct from Nvidia, but it said something about not detecting the correct hardware and quit installation. I think its because I have the notebook version of the 8600GT, Nvidia only seem to list desktop graphic cards. -
Cant use Nvidia drivers. Never could. You need to get modded drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com
-
It's a bit low. @ bigspin scored 3376 points on this machine using moded 158.45 drivers.
The GPU in this model is actually overclocked by ACER from nVidia default 475MHz to 513MHz to compensate somewhat for those DDR2 700 memory chips.
EDIT: Sorry DDR2 is @800MHz -

LaptopVideo 2 Go confuses me, how woudl i knwo which driver are compatible with the 8600M-GT?

Thanks for the link. Is this how Nvidia work? They release an official notebook driver, then expect the modding community to create the rest?
Do the updated drivers increase the performance by increasing heat, or optimising the hardware usage? If its the latter, i think I might try it. -
Nvidia does not release any notebook drivers. Well they do/did for the high end go7x00 series but not for other notebook cards. They dont expect the modding community to do it, they expect the notebook companies to do it (Dell, Asus, Acer, Hp....). They are supposed to adapt the official drivers to fit their notebooks. But they dont support it and just give you one driver when you buy the laptop. Rarely they give you updates.
The notebook companies complained to ATI a while ago that ATI was makeing offical notebook drivers available. People used them and if it caused problems the notebook support service didnt know anyway to fix it. So they asked ATI to stop. Nvidia should be similar reasons. -

So how do you measure the real clock speeds of the card if not with Rivatune? Are there any other programs available? Everest?

There is ntune which is from Nvidia http://www.nvidia.com/object/sysutility.html
or ATITool (yes it works with nvidia cards) http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
