As the title says
First laptop and I am deciding between a dell or hp
both 2.2 Ghz dual core intel
and 3Gb ram
any advice
-
the 8600gt will be more powerful than the 8600 gs
-
and 512MB won't make a lick of difference compared with 256MB either. GT version all the way.
-
8600M GT 256mb DDR3 is the best version of the card currently. (Check the memory type).
-
Forget GPU's memory. Take 8600GT and bump the system's RAM instead of graphic card's RAM surely it will alot help.
-
the ram is ddr2
is 3 Gb enough
is 2.2 Ghz enough
250 gb hard drive enough?
its a 17" so will games play well on it?
is $1,700 worth the price? its a dell inspiron 1720 -
why dont you go with the XPS 1530, it has the faster version of the 8600GT, you could get a nice 1530 for 1700 as well.
-
how do you know its a fater version? there is no info on the website
the 17" bought me over really -
for a processor 2ghz is enough and ram 2gb is good. games will play well but for some u will have to turn down the resolution
-
The Dell XPS m1530 has the Nvidia Geforce 8600GT GDDR3 256MB. If you want a 17" laptop their are better options than the Dell. You could get a laptop with the 8700GT then.

256mb- 8600M GT or 512mb- 8600M GS
