Justin over xoticpc posted the results for the Asus G51J-A1 (new i7 laptop) with the 260M, and I was having a really tough time tracking down previous benchmarks for a 260M at that resolution. Can anyone run that if you've got a 260M, or link to some results (not notebookcheck).

It pulled an 8461 (again 1920x1080), no AA, optimal filtering..

I guess what I'm trying to determine is if Asus under-clocked the 260M as they had reportedly done in the other G51 series laptops due to heat issues..

this is underclocked in the G51VX-X1A @ 500/799/1250. I suspect that the G51j has been further underclocked

Why Asus why?? Why not just put a 260 GTS instead of continuously underclocking the gtx?

    Sorry, I don't have a 1920x1080 monitor/TV, so I ran it at the default 1280x1024:

    "Stock" - P7350 @ 2.0 GHz, GTX 260M @ 500/1250/800 - 8638 3DMarks
    OC - P7350 @ 2.5 GHz, GTX 260M @ 600/1500/950 - 10594 3DMarks
    Stock - P7350 @ 2.5 GHz, GTX 260M @ 550/1375/950 - 10227 3DMarks

Stock clocks and stock CPU speed @1280x1024 I get around 10,100 marks.

Hrmm.. Thanks guys, that's what I feared. I was considering this as an option to the NP8690 since it was cheaper, and had the 17" and i7, but I really don't want to have to overclock my GPU on a new laptop to be satisfied with it..

Because people are free to overclock on their own and deal with the heat, but they don't have to cover it under the warrenty... in theory.

They downclock the GPU to compensate for an inferior cooling system. You get what you pay for.

I agree.. I suppose I could always buy a laptop cooling pad..

I see xoticpc is offering IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU for $45.. Wonder what effect that would have, or if it's just a lack of fans/heat pipes, etc.. in general.

Ermm I don't think the GTS 260M is ready to go. I have yet to see any for sale or in a laptop (even the new ones only come with GTS 250M).

It's a shame really, cuz that GTX 260M seems pretty underclocked. There is a review by the way on NBR. Kevin checked temps, and it was 84c max stock clocks and 94c OCed (I haven't check to what clocks).

It has the same clocks as the 260M GTX on the G51vx. Its clock speeds are identical to the 9800M GTX so it is not that bad.

lol im scoring same as ur 1280x1024 on my 1080p res, and u scored similar to my stock clock 500/799/1250 @ 1280x1024, with ur 600/1500/950. that just goes to show how CPU reliant and unreliable 3dmark06 is, when comparing systems of same GPU, different CPU.

my results..my highest score is in my sig tho.

Yes, Vantage is a much better benchmark, unfortunately it isn't free.
