So yea, I recently saw a good deal on ram, and bought it online, but I wasnt paying attention, so instead of getting 2x2GB sticks, I only am getting 1 2GB stick.

So yea, Im basically wondering, how much of a performance decrease will there be of just running on that single stick, rather then the 2GB in dual channel I have now?

[edit] and I cant get another stick at the same deal cause theyre sold out, so would another 2GB stick from a diff manufacture still run at proper dual channel speeds (2x2GB sticks)

If your motherboard supports dual channel which is very likely than you may see an unnoticaeble loss of performance if u use INTEL chipset however you loose more if you use AMD.

It doesnt matter if it is not the same manufacturer if sticks have identical specs then they are going to run dual channel automatically.

Just run 3 Gigs. You said you already have dual channel now, that 2x1 gigs, and you`re getting another 2 gigs... run 1 gis+2 gig..3 gig of memory are plenty for anything you may want.

Bottom line, 3GB is better than 2GB .. regardless of dual channel.
