My home computer is teh roxx0r, but bf2 is buggy sometimes, it takes a long time to load (I don't know how it compares to other ppl, but it's about a minute). the fps is fine, it's around 50, but sometimes it freezes for a sec (cacheing i beleive)... Would it still do this on a laptop with 1gb of ram? Or do I need 2?

oh yeah and my PC has 1 gb

BF 2142 is a very graphics intensive game. 2GB RAM will be nice.

2 gb is a must for bf2. 1280x1024 medium/high settings I think the game uses 1.2 gigs of memory iirc. I had the same problem until I went to 2 gigs of ram.

I play BF2 on my main PC with 1.5Gb of ram and its perfect at 1280x768 maxed out. I do have the odd stutter problem though with my laptop using 1gb of ram.

Basically, 1.5Gb is the sweet spot. 2gb is not necessary.

If your hard drive activity light is on all the time while gaming, then yes, you are running out of physical RAM and the computer is using the page file more than it should. The page file is extremely slow compared to RAM.

1.5GB would be good, 2GB would be nice to have. ;) I saw a very noticeable (although not drastic) difference going from 1GB --> 2GB of RAM in my laptop for more resource hungry games like BF2. Other games not so much because not all games need more than 1GB of RAM.

I think Company of Heroes for me may be the same problem; it tends to skip everyone once in a while and has long load times, and when I check my performance I'm really eating into my pagefile. I'm getting another gig for christmas :D

thats weird cause my home pc with every thing maxed out in 1024x 768 it still stutters but its bounching between 70 and 100 fps and it does take a while to load even though i have 2 gig of ram and my hard drive light only comes on at map loading/ blinks ocationally like once every 30-60 seconds

Hm... how do you get a stable fps? (Mine ranges from from 40-70 on dust, but on other maps it's 59fps -60fps 100% of the time, is this because of ram?), And also, do I need 2gb of ram for source?

having 2gigs of RAM will be noticeable for newer games.

if you have a dual-core CPU, make sure you do the Windows XP Multi-Core Hotfix, it will give a major performance boost for current and new games.

Check out this chart of FPS for BF2 (Battlefied 2) before and after the hotfix.

2gb of RAM really helps with BF2.
