As the title points out. I'm just wondering if I will be able to run a 3 motor setup with my m17 r4 with a 7970m. I have 2 24 inch monitors right now and will be Getting the last one for Xmas this year. I know my desktop will run it but it would be sweet if the laptop did aswell.

The desktop 680 GTX and 7970 can barely run three screens at high settings so the games are most likely going to be unplayable at high maybe at low-mid but its possible.

Although there expensive just look into getting an external video adapter, some allow for 2, 3 and even 4.

I guess I didn't specify but I ment that I wanted to run 3 simultaneously. And I thoughs ive seen people run amd 5870's with a three monitor setup and I thought the 7970m was well above that in performance. I wouldn't care if it wasn't at max settings.

5870 and three monitors? Can you link me to a source? I really doubt they played games on high with that. Yes the 7970m is well above performance. The 5870 comes with a 128bit bus width. I really doubt it could do games on three monitors on even medium.

With the 7970m, I would be really interested to see how your fps changes with memory overclocking. You are not going to be able to do high with even TWO 7970ms. The desktop 7970 gets about 40 fps on intense games and it has a 384bit memory bus and higher clocks.

5760x1200 is something, imo, that is best left to high end dual desktop GPUs.

Theres plenty of videos on youtube. Alienware notebooks running 3 monitor setup in separate and in eyefinity mode.
Theres also plenty of games which even 5870M is able to run in eyefinity with decent detail settings. Use utube search ;)

That is a desktop 5870. It is doing 6 monitors at 5760/2100 or whatever and is not in medium. The water in Bioshock will tell you this. I'm sure you can get the 5870m to do three monitors but you will not be able to do this on high or even medium-high.

p.s. if you can, could you post here please? I'm curious to know if it could.

Isn't the HD7970m above the HD5870 (desktop) hence it should be able to push games at such monitor setup. Not to mention it does have good memory bandwidth.

While it probably won't do high settings etc, it should be able to push some games in such threemonitor setup.

Yeah much better. I was just giving some info about the 5870m post above mine. Yeah the 7970m should be able to do three monitors. I just don't think it can do three in high.

I don't think there is much sense in surround without aa and high settings (after all your resolution per monitor stays the same, it just scales across multiple monitors) so image quality on a single monitor will be awfully bad, maybe it us just me but I cannot play a game without msaa (or equivalent) nowadays..

Surround without desktop gpu (or sli/cfx setup) will fail in terms of satisfaction imho..
