This is probably a good step at making 3D more enjoyable for the average Joe if you ask me

Good info. But I hate 3D. It's gimmicky and don't see it having any real practicality or enhancements. Even 3D at the movies is gimmicky. Only movie that I truly enjoyed in 3D was Avatar. That was 3D done right. Otherwise it's just more blue/red 3D shift type effects.

I'd rather they spend the tech resources on improving existing screens and get rid of all the cheap screens, maybe go for OLED instead of 3D. I'd take a robust screen over a gimmicky one any day.

Spending 1700$ for a laptop with 3D screen that only ONE person can enjoy, and on a tiny 15" screen, with a GT540M?

I know that 3D-glasses-free-screen tech is relatively brand new and that's the main reason for the price... but the main reason why I chose a 17" laptop is because I like a big screen for gaming and watching movies. It could be forgivable if at least a 460/560GTX were present (or a GT555 DDR5 as a minimum), besides it all, Qosmio was the gaming brand on Toshiba, isn't it? 3D and a 540GT? really? Do you think it can perform well on FHD even watching movies with that GPU? (the last one was a question, seriously)

Don't take me wrong, it IS a great tech, is A LOT better than wearing those 3D glasses... but Toshiba can do better than this I believe. Is just my opinion.

Only time a 3D is fine is on movies... or if you got a 100" 3D screen, at least. But I prefer standard movies.

Yep, like I said, not much into 3-D...yet, at least. I wouldn't own a TV or computer, or cell phone, etc that sports it. But I know a lot of folks are into 3-D gaming nowadays. Plus I figured it would spark some good debate/commentary.

It would have been nice to see a larger screen and more powerful GPU, but since this is the first, I'm sure they will get better and cheaper. I think it's more gimmicky and niche market-minded myself, much like my 20" HDX Dragon that I have managed to keep fast enough to play current games...but those days are fading fast.

I think it's a pretty cool laptop but has a steep price. If the price can drop, I can see where people would be interested in buying this.

Also, check out the CNET preview of the laptop. It gives info on how the 3D technology works and how it is the first of its kind. [make sure to watch the video clip]
    Toshiba's no-eyeglass Qosmio F750 3D laptop closer to release (in U.K., at least) | Crave - CNET

    Here's a thread I started of the F750 a while back:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/596288-qosmio-f750-3d-screen-w-o-glasses.html

BTW, Qosmios = high performance laptops, not necessarily gaming laptops.

    Good luck

I don't see the high performance value on that laptop, besides the i7 CPU. the only difference between that and this is the screen (the last even had a BD-RW drive).

I believe 3D tech will be gone or at least evolve on other levels... right now I don't see many people using this tech at home. Sales are low too.

I can see why people would purchase it and why people would not.
I have a friend who has a problem with his eye that gives him really bad headaches when he watches 3D movies or sees anything 3D.

Also, some people are not able to even see 3D due to an impairment in the eye.

With me, even with the polarized glasses in the theater, I have to take them off every 20 minutes for a minute or so, then put them back on, otherwise I lose the 3D effect entirely. It's like my eyes adjust to the polarization.

If anyone is considering a 3D laptop, it's best to try out a 3D TV at a retail shop in person.

I blew 2000$ on a 3D laptop last year only to discover my astigmatism made 3D worthless (along with vomiting after several minutes of use). :p

One day they'll master it so everyone can enjoy it *hopefully*.

3D has a long way to go ;)

i don't think they have the technology to make a 17". the thing about glasses free 3d is that it only works if the two viewpoints, your eyes, are far enough apart. there has to be a certain ratio between the distance between the viewpoints and the size of the screen.
