Hey you guys, I think something's wrong either with my Windows (maybe full of viruses hehe) or my graphics drivers, because I FINALLY decided to download 3dMark 06 last night, ran it, default everything.

Result: 3050. Is that supposed to be right for my specs? I mean I see other guys' signatures with the 8600 up to even 5600 (overclocked).

And also, I did overclock my card with ATiTool, but I've got the same score in the end.

    Any thoughts?

My default was 4679 out of the box, before I OC anything. That was with the drivers that came with the lappy, and Vista, DX10

depends on the resolution you are running 3dmark06....

people who get 5600 aren't running in 1280x1024...
people who get 4700 out of the box aren't either...
if you have a 1440x900 or 1280x800 screen, 3dmark defaults to a lower resolution which increases your score (but doesn't really mean anything)

you should expect to get about 4000 at the full 1280x1024 IF you overclock. and of course a higher score if you are running in a resolution lower than 1280x1024. try changing graphics card drivers and see what happens.

I ran the default resolution 3dmark06. Basically I installed it and hit RUN. I think it's 1280x1024. or x800? Not really sure.

Anywho, is it me (being an idiot) or I don't know how to overclock my video card? ATiTool says I'm doing 600/900, no temps change, 3dmark06 score the same. That's supposed to be a really high overclock for my card, right?

Well, I'm on the process of reinstalling Windows anyways, so I think I'll do that.

Any other ideas? How about, what drivers are the best for our machine there, Chef?

usually go for the latest whql. currently, its 175.80

if your monitor can't display 1280x1024, then 3dmark06 isn't running in 1280x1024. so figure out the resolution of your monitor.

I've ran a few bench marks to see what scores i can get with 3dmark06, overclocked and at different resolutions. Im getting the following scores:

    Not OC'ed @ 1280x800 - 4361
    OC'ed @ 1280x800 - 5833
    OC'ed @ 1280x1024 - 4756

Currently using 167.45 drivers on Vista 32-bit

Yeah, so my screen is 1440x900. So I guess it would be 1280x800 then right?

I'm going to put Vista on here, first I gotta resize my Windows partition, install it, the drivers and all that, and I'll let you guys know, thanks :D

Shouldn't running 3dmark at 1440x900 give a similar score to 1280x1024? The pixel count isn't too far apart between the two resolutions.

Way too low of a mark. A stock DDR2 gets higher than that.
