I'm having trouble deciding between two laptops. The HP 8710w and the Sager NP5793
The reason i'm considering the Sager is that it offers the 2.8 processor instead of the 2.6 available in the HP and because of the 8800GTX offered in it. I prefer the look, build, point stick, non-glossy aspects of the HP over the Sager. The HP costs a bit more, but thats not my primary concern now.
So one of the main points of arguments now becomes.. how do the 3600M and the 8800GTX compare both on a hardware technical level and on a real world/drivers level. I'm not a CAD/Maya/Max person. I do regular c++ programming and i play video games somewhat frequently. Can someone give me a detailed explanation of the differences between these two graphics cards?

CPP has nothing to do with your GPU. Gaming wise, the 8800M GTX should be better. I've already answered this question in your previous post... they're basically the same.
-
I'm sorry but "is better" isn't really the answer i was looking for. And the CPP was in relation to the CPU not the GPU. I wanted to know why some people say the 8800GTX is better and some say they are identical.

A Pentium II could do everything you could want with C++. Currently, the ideal processor to buy is the T9300 2.5Ghz C2D.
Let me say this again.... both the 8800M GTX and Quadro 3600M are essentially the same chip... but they are with different functionality intended in mind. The quadro is meant for intense graphic development, while the geforce is meant for intense gaming, when both can do either (more or less).... -
Unless I seriously missed the memo, the Nvidia 8800m GTX is absolutely the most powerful mobile GPU available by a wide margin.
The 3600, which is the workstation version of the 8800m GTX (unless ATI started releasing 3 series mobile chips already?), will run almost as well, but is really meant for graphical development, so in most cases the 8800m GTX would be better performing. I think in some cases the differences between the two (due to driver difference, I believe) can be as much as 20% in games.
What resolutions are you getting in those systems? Are they both 1920x1200? If that is the case, and you expect to be running games at native resolution that include modern titles like Supreme Commander, Crysis, The Witcher, etc, then I'd recommend the 8800m GTX, which is really the only mobile GPU from this generation comfortable with that high a resolution. If it is just going to be Starcraft at 800x600, then it really doesn't matter at all now. Even StarCraft II will probably run pretty much maxed on something like a 3600m.
It is a choice between maximum performance (Sager), or style and extra battery life (HP).
There's a review of the Sager on NBR, here.
There is also a review of the HP, but it is with different components. Here. -
Don't also ignore the fact that you'd be paying HIGHER for the HP with a LESSER configuration.
-
But expecting a card with quadro drivers to play games well wouldn't be the best experience.
As for processors.. T9300 is ideal. Or the T8300. -
I would honestly suggest you to go with the configuration in my signature... light on your pocket and heavy in performance!
Not to mention great support from Sager resellers!

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)

As a person that has researched the next laptop problem, into the ground and beyond, I agree with Prasad. The best gaming graphics card out there (right now) is the M8800 GTX, One of the best single GPU laptops for gaming is the Sager NP5793. Sager also makes the fastest gaming laptop in the world, it is the NP9262. It is actually a desktop replacement. It costs more money but having the ability to SLI a couple of 8800's and multiple Raid hard drives plus a desktop processor (including quads) make it the fastest laptop in the world, for now.
So if you want a gaming rig then go with the Sager.
You may want to check out XoticPC as they are a reseller for Sager with fantastic ratings. -
if you don't use maya/solidwork, then go for 8800m GTX, can't be wrong with that.

Even though I love my HP bussiness class, the price forces me not to recommend it.
Go with either the sager 5793 or the 9262 if you want the ultimate power.
