It will work but only at low-mid settings. The 8600m GS/GT will perform a lot better, however remember that Halo 2 is a bad port and has very steep requirements for a 2 year old game.

Well, there are no "video card settings" for Halo 2. I think it just based on the card you have. I am actually playing it right now on my 1520 (along with other games) and it runs pretty damn well on my 1520/8600M GT.

I think the 8400M GS MIGHT be able to handle it. I can't say for sure. The 8600M GT is tons better than it though.

Halo 2 looks no different from Halo 1, and even a Geforce 4 Ti4200 can easily handle Halo 1. So if 8400M GS struggled with the game,, it must be one horrible port

You must be blind then. Halo 2's graphics are immensely better than those of Halo 1.....

But yes, it IS a horrible port....because by today's standards, 2007, Halo 2 looks older than when it came out.

I'm most certainly not blind and I also think Halo 2 is a dog ugly game. It'd be bad even by 2004's PC standards to be honest.

By todays standards, Halo 2's graphics are sub-par. But 2+ years ago, Halo 2 had great graphics, much better than Halo 1.

Wow, you truly are blind. In 2004, the game was definitely one of the best. You are probably just some PC fanboy/xbox hater/console hater.....I assume that because you say "PC standards". And no, I'm not a xbox/halo fanboy....I don't even own an xbox. I know a good game when I see one.

    Support of my statement.

I used to own an X-box and X-box 360 actually. What I said was that when Halo 2 came out, it wasn't anything special by PC Standards - meaning yes it was good for the Xbox was not compared to say, Far Cry and Half Life 2 which was also out.

So obviously if it was nothing special back then to PC Gamers, it's hardly going to be special 3 entire years later looking practically the same and running like absolute crap. I think you'd be hard pressed to insist Halo 2 is a good looking game, unless

    a) You've not played any other PC game in the last few years
    b) Genuinely have some sort of visual difficulties.

Pretty much every review I've ever read points out the sub-par graphics are inefficiency of the game engine.

No, when it came out, it was a good looking game. I understand that you said by PC Standards....and I pointed that out....that I was talking about you comparing it to PC when PC is always better.

Only recently did most of the multi platform games play worst on the PC because they are crappy ports.

Anyway, you said meaning yes it was good for the Xbox...which was my point all along. Thanks for saying it yourself, :)

oooooooo there is a HUGE difference between those cards. Is there any chance you are getting an HP notebook? Those graphics card options look similar to those found on HP.

Anyway, the GMA x3100 is an integrated graphics chip and you should DEFINITELY steer clear of it if you plan to game. The 8400M GS, although not high end at all, will definitely be more powerful than the GMA x3100. Don't compare the ram of the cards.
