    Will my laptop with:
    + 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    + 2 GB RAM
    + Core 2 Duo T7300 (Santa Rosa)

...be able to run games such as crysis, half life 2, doom 3, etc to it's maximum potential? If not, what graphical settings would it support? Any games I won't be able to run?

FEAR will probably be medium settings. That's what I get on my laptop, and the 8400 GS should be similar performance as my 7600 is slightly underclocked.

There is also the fact that nobody really knows how Crysis will run on a given piece of hardware. It's not out yet. Nobody has played it. All we have is the developers marketing blurbs that say it will run decently on high-end GeForce 7xxx cards. Take those with however many grains of salt you like, and remember that the 8400 is not an extremely powerful card to begin with.

I have the exact card with my DV6500T and only played Battlefield 2 so far with medium settings. It has no problems running on medium, but I have yet to try high.

am curious about something please help. This is directly from the information from hP.

The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8400M GS delivers improved quality and performance levels in 3D graphics. If configured with the 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 128MB dedicated memory and up to 255MB shared memory. If configured with the 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), there will be 128MB dedicated memory and up to 767MB shared memory.

What would happen if you have 4gbs of system Memory, which is now offered from Hp. Would this be a sweet gaming setup for a cheap price then. I know if running 32-bit vista it would only recognize 3gbs, but what would the shared memory total be. I am pretty new at this and am curious about how good this setup would be.

Even if it can/does share that much memory, it would be wasted on that card because the 8400M won't be able to pump enough graphics into that huge memory hole. (sounds perverted but it's a best analogy i can come up with lol)

And imo, I question whether it can play Crysis or not. But I'm a little pessimistic and am expecting low settings with my 8600M GT.

If games are that important to you, you might want to consider a different laptop.

Aw, c'mon, given the 8400gs is one of the latest dedicated GPUs to date (22/06/2007), if it wouldn't RUN Crysis, seriously, how are supposed to sell that game . . . .

I think there is a very good chance the 8400M-GS will be able to run Crysis. It would be rather silly if it couldn't. If the game is as optimized as Far Cry was four years ago then it should run well on even low-end hardware.

"Every sane person is wondering how all this is going to run on their system. We asked Cevat Yerli, Crytek CEO, what gamers with a limited budget should buy to make sure they can play Crysis well, and his first answer was two gigs of RAM. The single gig most of us have is going to struggle with environments of this size, and with this much smashable stuff to keep track of. Next on the shopping list is, predictably, a GeForce 8800 - but the GTS model in that range is fairly affordable, and not a huge step down from the GTX. The surprising part is that Cevat says a Core 2 Duo E6600 processor is enough to run Crysis on Ultra High settings with that setup. That chip is likely to undergo another price drop before Crysis comes out, too, so don’t rush."

So a 8400M GS should handle battlefield 2 pretty well then?
