I'm sorry if im not forming this question right, but since im completely confused, this is the best i can do at the moment.

First to tell you a bit about my laptop:

    Gateway T-1625,
    ATI Radeon X1270,
2G RAM (I believe thats correct),
    Windows 7 (RC),

I've tried downloading some old school games such as NFS: Porsche Unleashed, and some newer games that dont require much such as Tremulous (used to play when i was running ubuntu). But i keep getting messages that more or less tell me they can't find a 3D graphics card or driver of some sort (i used to play tremulous just fine on this same machine when i had ubuntu).
When i tried searching for drivers, i got all these options for "Voodoo" and "catalyst"s, and i have no idea what those are. I just want to be able to play a few good games on here like the ones mentioned above.

So please can anyone tell me what exactly i'm looking for? And if possible, where i can find it?

BTW, I do remember that the game did have an issue addressing AGP cards at the time and had to be patched. I'd imagine that addressing a newer integrated notebook card would be a problem as well. Hopefully patching it will solve that. Otherwise you may have to try running the game in a VM.

Ya i downloaded the patch that said it would make it compatable, however i still get the message "3D hardware could not be initialized". Maybe i downloaded the wrong patch? Or am i missing some sort of driver?

I doubt that there's much yhou can do. Your hardware is too new for the game to recognize, and short of another patch coming out (which I would bet money against) I'm doubtful there's anything you can do to make it recognize it.

Stranger77, just for future reference, ATi's graphics drivers are called "Catalyst," while Nvidia's are called "ForceWare."

Certain really old games were made only for 3DFX cards and used a proprietary API called Glide.

There are a few programs out that that will allow glide-only games to run on modern cards via OpenGL.

Since you have an ATI card, Google: ATI, glide, wrapper.

Hmm, Porsche unleashed should run just fine for you in Direct3d mode... I'm currently running it on my netbook with XP, and also my Tablet, which runs Windows7 and has ATI gpu... sounds like you might not have the right or best patch... I'm running one that adds some features, better support etc... I'd post the link if I could remember where I got it, but will have to look...

should definitely run though on that hardware...

Ya i tried the glide wrapper, and i went through the readme where they were saying to copy the glide2x.dll file into the folder with the game executable. Which I did. But it seems that didn't change anything.
I had the same issue with Tremulous, it would tell me:

WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
    ...shutting down QGL
    ----- CL_Shutdown -----
    RE_Shutdown( 1 )
    -----------------------
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

So naturally I tried copying that glide2x.dll into ITS game directory, but still no dice.
Are there any other racing games or interesting games i could run on here smoothly?

P.S: be77solo, if you could give me the name of the patch and download spot (i think id be able to find it if i have the name of the patch), that would a great help. I might've downloaded the wrong patch.

X1270 is not a very good IGP. You might be able to get somewhere by using Mobility Modder on the driver that supports it (go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx and try the Vista driver, the Win7 driver doesn't support it), then force it to install.
