Is anyone else getting an error while running 3DMark Vantage? it occurs during the cpu test and particularly when the lower display tries to fade out.

I never had that error, but I had another. I simply closed the error window, and ran the benchmark again.... and it worked flawlessly.

Ahhh thats blury hurt my eyes trying to read it. Without knowing your error or giving any reason related to it, I will list a few things that I think can happen for alot of other people tho so they know what not to do.

1.) Its a DX10 only benchmark if I am not mistaken, so that means don't even try to run it unless you are using Vista and have a DX10 compatible video card.

2.) If you have a pirated copy of anything be it a game/program/benchmark. Don't ask why you have an error.

3.) If you have a crash in a benchmark and you are overclocked, turn down your overclock or turn it off and try again. Your system could be unstable.

4.) Make sure you have up to date drivers and direct X for your video card.

With that we should cover alot of bases.

I had the exact same error. I fixed two things, so I'm not sure which was the cause.

    1. Make sure in your Nvidia control panel lists only a single display as being used in case you have an external monitor connected. Mine was actually extending my desktop and I hadn't realized it. I fixed the issue by deactivating the other monitor and making sure I was only using a single monitor.
    2. I used an external monitor so that the test could complete at its specified 1280x1024. I'm not sure the 'Peformance' level test is ok with 1440x900.

i think the problem is my max. resolution of 1280x800. someone in another solved the problem by just changed his to 1280x1024. if anyone could help, i'd really appreciate it

You either need to purchase the advanced version of Vantage to manually set the resolution or you need to connect your system up to an external monitor capable of displaying 1280x1024 resolution. Other than that, I think you'll just have to wait for the first Vantage patch.

Ran it once, had an error, didn't look at error, didn't care since the whole activation thing, uninstalled, never to return again.

However I can tell you from what little I looked at my error was different, and there seems to be alot of them out there.

    Hi.

my external monitor is only 1440x900 and it worked fine, with the one shot version.

    regards

Yeah that should help if the default it's setting it to is the 'performance' level tests, which are 1280x1024, the 'entry' level tests are run at 1024x768.
So setting your desktop to show resolutions not supported by your display and then running in 1280x1024 mode could help, but IMO not worth it.

Otherwise wait for a patch, or else ignore it. I pick the later.

Vantage is pretty darn buggy. It seems a large number of people get at least 1 error (though it doesn't reappear) when first using the program.

Good thing I didn't pay for it! Heh, I'll gladly wait a month or two for all the cheap Nvidia/ATI driver optimization wars to conclude and for version 1.1 of Vantage and then I'll buy it.

I'm having the same problem as TheGreatgrapeape, my monitor doesnt support 1280x1024 and needs to in order to run the benchmark. Does anyone know a way of doing this? Have tried the custom resolution in nvidia control panel with no luck

If you cant support the resolution you cant run the benchmark, the resolution is locked for a reason.

Too many people would post 3dmark06 scores at a varying resolution and the numbers were not consistant. Now with Vantage each resolution is a specific test, so performance (the Pscores) are the 1280x1024 resolution tests. Then going up to the next highest resolution is the Extreme test I belive, and then there is one even higher than that.

Its a cool system when you think about it, just it will take time for everybody to catch on. Before I got the free advanced version with my ram and saw the options and what they meant I had no idea what the different scores where and what they meant, but now I do. Each setting has has a preset resolution & difficulty setting associated with it and not running the test in that resolution would make it invalid.

I have the same problem. It's because our displays dont support 1280x1024. I cant even run the feature tests because of that. The fix would be to connect your laptop to an external monitor that supports that resolution. With the default acer drivers and a config same as yours just 4GB ram (but with 32bit Vista it doesn’t matter I guess) I get 842 GPU score. Will try with modded drivers and post the score later on
