    3DMark05/06 scores for gamers?

    Just curious to know, what is a sufficient 3DMark05/06 score for gamers that want to play demanding DX9/10 games with medium to high settings?

    A 3DMark score doesn't translate well into game performance since each game is coded differently. There's not magic score to pass for good performance. But, since you're using a 8600m GT, it should be able to handle most games at med/high settings. Your score is probably around 3000 in 3DMark06.

    if you overclock the 8600 you can go even higher

    I look at 3Dmark as setting its own closed standard. It dose not reflect real world gaming.

    You should look at the actual GPU instead. The Performance cards in the GPU Guide are what to go for, and the mid-range cards will do too. However the performance cards are about twice as powerful.
