So, with the enabling of things like the /usepmtimer switch in boot.ini and overclocking my 7900 GS, I've decided to see what these two programs have to say about my meager laptop. I figure they're the best way to determine my computer's overall capabilities and gauge how far I can push it.
Just to make sure before I run them, in regards to scores, what would be considered average?

Well, I just tried PCMark05. It was running fine before it got to Test #11, and then it said the test failed and it didn't produce a score.
...****it. What a waste of bandwidth to download that program.
From what I witnessed during the test, everything ran really fast and finished very quickly. So, I guess it should have received a high score... -

Don't forget that you need Windows Media Encoder 9 Series installed in order to run PCMark05.
Also, make sure your theme is set to "Best Appearance," otherwise certain tests will fail.
Right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, hit "Settings" under the "Performance" menu, and select "Adjust for best appearance."
See if it runs now.
Judging by the specifications of your system, you should score very high. You can submit your score online and compare it to similar systems. -
my scores in sig there stock scores

Just managed to get my 3DMark05 score, put into my sig. Going to run 3DMark06 in a short while, then retry PCMark05.
About the Media Encoder thing. I have Media Player 11 installed. Shouldn't that be good enough for these programs?
EDIT: I went and downloaded the Media Encoder pack and installed it. As I said, Media Player 11 is installed. I do get a message at the start saying it needs Media Player 10 or higher to run (which I do have). Ran it again, and STILL it failed at the last test, giving no score. What's wrong with it? -

Media Player 11 might be the culprit. I recall having that on my system when I had Windows XP installed and I was never able to get PCMark05 to run properly. Try rolling back to Media Player 10.
Windows Media Encoder 9 and Windows Media Player are two different applications.
Which test is failing? -
The last one. It doesn't even get a chance to start.
Just finished the 3DMark2006 test. Score in sig. These scores can go up in value when I get more RAM, I'm sure of it.
EDIT: ACK! I just realized that I DON'T have WMP11 installed. I did before, but I had to replace my laptop's hard drive due to some problems. I figured I got everything I needed back and installed on the new hard drive, but I guess I missed WMP by mistake. I'll install WMP11 this time and run PCMark05 AGAIN to see if it finally works.
EDIT2: It worked. Seems like WMP9 lurking caused the problem. So, it was the Audio/Video manipulation test that failed. I finally got the score put into my sig. According to the Futuremark score site, I'm sitting about the top 1/3 of the total number of tests submitted.
