I have recently upgraded a ton of crap on this laptop, downloaded Rivatuner and OC'd the 8700M to the specs listed in my sig and just ran 3Dmark06 to see how the computer would do.

My score was 6402............that seems low to me compared to what I see some guys posting up on here. I haven't tried any games on it since the upgrades so I can't say how it performs real world, but I had just assumed it would do better than it did on this test. Anyone have any insight to offer on this?

6402 @1280x1024 is a very good score. A stock 8700 is supposed to do ~4800.

    6400 is about a desktop 8600GTS

Guess I should have added, that was at 1440 X 900............don't know if that matters or not though.

Resolution matters a great deal. As soon as you move away from the default setting that the free version uses, your tests cannot be compared to ours.

That doesn't matter; what he's saying is that you ran it at 1440x900, and everyone else uses 1280x1024, they CANNOT be compared; there's too big of a number difference. For example, I get 5056 at 1280x800, but only 4766 at 1280x1024. The height is a little bit shorter, but I lost nearly 400 points.

    Ohhhhh ok..............thanks. I'll try it at 1280 X 1024 then.

I figure at the rate I'm going, by the time I leave Iraq I should be a Laptop Genius or something.............all the stupid questions and problems I keep asking and having. haha

Well, I re-ran the test, but it didn't give me 1280X1024 as an option, the closest I could get was 1280X854. 6482 I think is what it came up with.

This is because the S9349 only comes with a 1440*900 screen. Some of the higher-end X205s come with 1680*1050 screens, like mine and they support 1280*1024. If you have an external monitor that you can use that supports 1280*1024, then you can use that to run the test at default settings.

The whole point in my wanting the upgraded screen on the laptop is that I want to see how far I can take this Toshiba...........I want the maximum performance out of it and it alone without having to attach it to anything else. I realize I could just buy something more powerful and be done with it, but this gives me something to do while I'm out here and not dodging incoming rockets or motar rounds. :D (not that there're a whole heck of a lot of those here at COB Speicher mind you)

didn't know you we're really looking for one, thought you we're just testing. i have a 1920x1200 screen in mine. love it! and there go the 3dmrks scores for it as well (below). they are costing about 250 to 350 bucks depending on year and whether it has brackets & inverter attached.

and you will take a hit in fps the higher the resolution you go.

Yeah I probably wasn't clear on what I was doing overall.

I checked on LCDs4less.com and they have the screens off of the 9359s which are a step up from what I have but no info on compatibility or anything like that. Physically I know they'll be the same as the two computers use the same chassis but I am more curious about the wiring and plugs. Would love to go to a screen like yours, but again there's the question of compatibility with the Toshiba chassis and wiring.

www.smartmicrousa.com is where i got mine from. it's an lg.

ask them. i have sent a lot of folks they're way and they may have done a few x205's already. you never know. or u can do like i did. which was to take it apart first to see just what it looked like. most have removable brackets which means the screen is universal and will fit most laptops.

here is my screen in my hp before i put it where it belongs...in my gateway....

I just want to make sure that it fits in the factory casing and looks factory, I want a franken-laptop without the franken-laptop look. hehe

I wasn't sure it was a low score, it just looked low compared to numbers I see others putting up..........like the 9k + numbers shown by John here for instance.

oh no slim..we will have no frankenberry laptops around here...lol

when i did that dv9700 it was the very first one done. hp still doesn't offer a 1920x1200 screen. i had to be first and take a chance. and smartmicro was willing to work with me on it. to get it right. but it worked on the first shot.

in your case..you have about 3 good options.
1: take it apart like what guys do..take stuff apart..lol
2: run everest and see what it comes back for your screen, then google the numbers and try to do a cross reference
3: call and see if they already have a valid part number for now.

(these are in no specific order)

and them 9k numbers weren't had over night....i have tested every single driver you can think of...lol

I've had it apart already John, installed a new processor in it a couple of days ago. As I recall, the only connections were a ribbon cable and what I took to be a power cable...........and maybe some of what looked almost like mini "rf" style connectors on a grey, black white wire that went to a daughter card on the motherboard itself. I'll check out the everest thing you are talking about and see what I come up with on there.

    looking good!

but you kind of sort of need to move the center screen to the right so people can see your resolution

It's already back together John..........and I didn't see a part number when I had it apart as the entire lid came of as a unit with the screen in it.

    the 3dmark06 defaulted at 1280 x 720. That's because my screen is not high-end like yours :D
Still very happy with this score.

yeah, that whole thing comes completely apart. and the screen detaches from the plastic housing.

let me get this straight... you took off the little rubber pads on the screen itself..and then unscrewed the screws around the screen. then took like a flat piece of plastic to un snap the front and back monitor plastic apart leaving just the screen still attached. then unsscrewed the small little screws holding it to the base that was just removed from the main body of the laptop?

just making sure we on the same page with taking apart the screen itself....

for your screen...your close's default would be 1280x800 or 1280x854. no one looks at 720...sorry...else everyone would jump down to 800x600 with some out rages score...lol

No, I removed the entire lid / screen as an assembly by unscrewing the hinges where they mount to the base after removing the keyboard and covers over the speakers.

what inf file are you using? your missing quite a few resolutions.

scratch that...are you using the freebie version or the bought version.

edit: i just looked...you have the freebie version that's that's why your missing the 1280x800 res
they should have made a class for the 1440x900 screens..since most of todays laptop's come standard with them

I'm using the full version 3dmark06.
