    3GB Nvidia 555M vs 1GB Nvidia 640M

    Hello,

    3GB Nvidia 555M vs 1GB Nvidia 640M

    I am getting Dell XPS 17 (Sandy Bridge) & Samsung Series 7 (Ivy Bridge) for the same price.

    However, I am more interested in Samsung, as it has last tech, slim, stylish etc

    Now, question is how do you compare Nvidia 1GB 640M vs 555M 3GB

    If 640M is little better than 555M, then I think I should go with dell XPS 17

    Waiting for some help.

    They're close, the 3gb in the 555m is a gimmick.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    If The samsung is has a 640M and NOT a 640M LE then it is much faster STOCK than a 555M

    Overclocked though, the 555M GDDR5 and 640M DDR3 are a stone's throw from each other. But if the samsung 640M is a GDDR5 version then it is the better choice.

    And Avoid the 640M LE because that's slower than either

    So,
    640M GDDR5 > 640M DDR3 = 555M GDDR5 > 555M DDR3 > 640M LE

    The 640m is quite a bit faster then the gt555m and takes similar power consumption to a gt 525m.
