ok guys just a little heads up to the people that have bought this from steam... like me ..
well i bought it Dl it and installe it all from steam then unistalled steam and bam its a demo again..
I was like whats going on.. So i looke around for my serial and googled it and there isnt one given on steam for the software..(must be some mass liecening )
So I email steam/vale support about a week ago and havent got a responce.. I looked for a customer support number and there isnt one.. (theres a number that tells you some automated crap but never alive person)
And so in a last ditch effort to get my serial and to ue the software with out steam needing to be installed I called futuremark.. and I "qoute" they told me that they do not have any thing to do with steam or supporting the product sold on steam.. I then asked them how it is handled and they told me I need to contact valve/steam to have the issue resolved and I asked them so what you sell a bunch of liecences to them and they just resell them? and the guy told me pretty much..
I went on to tell the person on the phone that this is just a bunch of BS I spent money on a product by your company and that valve/steam doesnt have a support number and there is no real way of gettting this resolved.. I then Asked how to go about getting a refund and again i was turned towards steam.. and I also aske him that since i bought the software why i wasnt intittled to a serial for my product and he said that since I bought it thru steam that steam retains owner ship of the software and that im leasing it from them and do not own it.. I told him that was plain bs
I went one step further and said you know its really crappy that when you buy a product and its not supported and get told you dont own also.... and that many manufactors of products sell thru resellers and they warranty there products and or deal with customer service issues..and you own the product! but you guys dont.. he then asked me where I lived and I told him and his tune changed and he said he would talk to the president of futuremark about this issue.. who I guess is based in CA.. because the only to number i found on there site were to here and finland..
so we shall see what becomes of this.. just wanted to give you a heads up.. you should just buy it at regular price from futuremark and bypas steam all together..

Are you having any specific issues with the software besides the requirement to run through Steam?
Generally anything you buy from steam requires steam to run. I personally don't think the steam model works for apps but I've found it to be the best digital distribution for games. They do however have great support and I'm sure they'll happily refund you if you explain the issues you're having. It's disappointing that futuremark aren't willing to help but I'm not sure what you want them to do?
Just FYI read the EULA - you don't and never have 'owned' any of your software it's just that digital distribution has made users more implicitly aware of this fact. You pay for the right to use a piece of compilied copyright software. The person who wrote it holds the IP and owns it. -
the issue im having with them is that i dont like running steam and they dont issue you a key wich they should with any software you buy.. and futuremark will not "service" warrenty" otherwise provide support " for any of there software bought through steam..
steam doesnt respond to any email.. so yea and the issue is(after i install through steam its a legit copy..but the minute i unistall steam it reverts back to a demo..) -
Generally there is no software on steam that installs in the way you want. The whole point of using it is that it is a centralised location for all your software that's kept up-to-date and let's you reinstall all your purchased software without having to worry about discs or backup files or software keys.
Do you normally use steam for games?
There's probably a backlog of support requests due to the holidays. I've been refunded in the past and they were pretty good about it, it just took a while for the initial reply. -
Thanks for the heads up, I was going to buy it if its 4.99 again. Steam usually refund if there's a problem as they did with the War Z debarcle recently.
What sucks is you don't and probably won't get a key. -
Hi, I am the community manager at Futuremark. We pride ourselves on fast and helpful support and the experience you had is not typical. If you send me an email at [email protected] with the name of the person you spoke to I will look into it.
In your case, you were given bad advice:
- Yes, we support products we sell on Steam. The only exceptions are payment issues and refunds which are handled by Valve.
- To get your product key: install Steam, go to your library and download 3DMark Vantage. Open 3DMark Vantage, go to the About tab and you will see your Advanced Edition key underneath the copyright notice.
- In other 3DMark versions, you can find the key on the Help tab.
- If you submitted results, you will also see all your benchmark keys on our website.
- You can swap product keys between the Steam and standalone versions whenever you like.
- See our 3DMark Steam FAQ for more details.
- Visit our support pages if you need further support.
I hope this helps and my apologies again for the poor experience you had. -
