When I got my first e1505 (had a bad screen) i ran 3dmark repeatedly with slightly different settings trying to squeeze a little more out of the graphics card.

I got my replacement and ran 3dmark on it with similar results... but if i run it multiple times it will sometimes give a windows error when it starts to do the second game demo of the series (the firefly light in the woods).

If I reboot it runs fine... but if i rerun it sometimes it will die always at the same spot. Any ideas as to why? Is there a problem with my hardware or is it software. It does the same thing with Catalyst and Omega Drivers. its an x1400 video card.

I think I figured it out... The only difference was the new machine had avast installed... I removed it and the Winmark problem when away too. I wonder if all antivirus software can do this or if its an avast + 3dmark issue.

could be an issue there..try googling it..i dont see why it would happen...i use avast! on my desktop, while on for weeks at a time, gaming for hours on end..and avast doesnt bother me one bit...could be a rare occurence though..

I google it... and found 3-4 posts of people having the same problem... doesnt cause them a problem in real world use... just running 3dmark2005 repeatedly... runs fine once... but second time always dies when starting the firefly/glowing light part of the test.

To test it... I uninstalled avast... and ran 3dmark like 10 times in a row without incident. Then reinstalled avast... and had it die at the same place on the second run through.

Today ive been playing with the machine non stop... lots of multimedia, 3d work, etc. etc. and its run without incident. Even was building a 3d scene while encoding a dvd in media center... gotta love core duo.

You know you should turn off on access protection when running benchmarks for avast. This is because it scans files when they are accessed during normal use, games, synthetic benchmarks like 3dmark.

Right click and Stop On-Access Protection before running benchmarks.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Tried that... tried turning off all the protections... only thing that would resolve the issue was uninstalling it completely. So I uninstalled it... ran my benchmarks, then reinstalled it. It hasnt caused any probs with any other software... just 3dmark.

Been using avast a few days now... and I really like how it stays out of your way... not nearly as big a footprint as norton. So if its doing its job im happy.
