The score difference is too big to be a Vista performance issue.
My money's on the Vista driver.

I'm thinking it could be DirectX 10. Anyone else think so?

Damn - nice :D Try this - Download the latest version of DirectX 9 - I just heard that Vista ships with the 03 release of DX9, not the 06 release. Let me know if that helps.

Don't worry about your points but rather the game performance.

I wouldn't be concerned if the score was down to like 10,000 or even 9500, I am not one of those people that really worry over a few points, but dropping 2000 is a little ridiculous

    3dmark06 is a DX9 app.

updating DirectX with the latest refresh isn't a bad idea, but given that the app is older than the DX release, I don't think much will come of it.

Most of the hotfixes are not to be found on window update, but soon it won't matter given SP1.

the ones I specifically speak of are:
    Compatibility fixes - KB938194
    Memory - KB940105
    Performance - KB938979
    Stability - KB941649

Note, some people have found that some won't install now... perhaps MS has released more recent patches that i have not required as they are already installed.
