I just ran 3dmark06 advanced at my native resolution of 1440x900 and scored a 2992. I was wondering if this is an average score and what I could do to improve these. I have the windows vista 32 bit 163.16 drivers installed currently.

You need to run 3dmark at teh default settings to be able to compare it other scores. You should also just test it in games, and not worry so much about what 3dmark tells you, but what performance you get.

He can't Scavar :( 1440 x 900 is his native res. Just figure your score to be about 1.1% higher than if it was run at default.

And the 163.16 drivers are one of the best to use for the 8600 atm.

Now that's wierd. Can your display do 1600×1024?

That's what I'm finding weird. That your max display is 1440x900 but your able to do 1280x1024. You can't have a resolution that's higher than the notebooks LCD can provide. i.e. 900 < 1024.

Are you running the test at 1280 x 1024? Or is it throttling you back to a lower setting?

I know he cant do default default, but he can still compare it to other scores that aren't default. It should be going 1024x786 on its on as default.

actually.....if you didn't change anything, the default should have gone to 1024x786. To run it at 1280x800 you'd have to set it.

Again, you CAN'T set it to run at a resolution higher than your native one UNLESS you output it to a higher native resolution set...i.e. external monitor.

It just doesn't work that way.

With my 1520 (2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 7200 HD, 8600 GT) I get around 24xx 3D marks (06 version). Is this low, you think? I've tried the 163.11 and 162.18 drivers.

My first inspiron scored 3620 but it was warped or something and would wobble if you tried to type with it... so I got it replaced and now score 3250 and have obnoxious light leakage :(

    /sigh

We are talking about 3DMark06...WHICH THE DEFAULT IS 1280x1024, NOT 1024x768. We are not talking about 3DMark05. And yes, you can set 3DMark05/06 to display UP TO YOUR NATIVE DISPLAY RESOULTION, if you have the payed for version. Otherwise you have to output it to a higher source.

We are talking about the OP's display of 1440x900 which CANNOT DO 1280x1024, UNLESS he outputs it to an external source THAT CAN DO HIGHER.
