Maybe this is a dumb question, but would I be able to run 3dmark05 on a core duo 1.83? It says the min. req. is 2ghz

For games in general, is the core duo architecture different so it performs at a higher ghz level than its clocked at? My new notebook beats out my desktop with a 2.8ghz p4 w/ht by a good 50 seconds at superpi. So what's up?

again, sorry if this is a stupid question or if it's already been covered.

yes you can. The 2.0 Duo processor (i have seen this before somewhere) is rated as being the equivalent of a 3.0Gig P4 Dual Core, so you're probably hangin around 2.6-2.8 Dual Core in this type of comparison.

But with the different architecture and pipeline, they handle instructions differently and it is like comparing apples to ferrari's.

If you look at reviews of laptops from this website you will see a mixture of PM and more recently core duos. Everyone runs 3Dmark when reviewing a laptop and it works fine. Dont let the lower clock speeds of laptops fool you - theres more to a processor than just that.

Clockspeeds don't mean anything; as long as you have a Core Duo or other modern CPU, it will be fine.

Exactly, just cuz a software "reccomends" what speed u should have doesnt make that a cutoff point for who can and who cannot use the program. Its just a reccomendation...heck I bet u can run 3dmark05 on a 800MHz P3
