Ok, so here's the scoop on Futuremark's 3DMark06 ( http://www.futuremark.com/products/3DMark06/), which if you didn't notice, came out earlier today.
It includes 2 SM2 tests, 2 more of those torturous CPU tests not even an Athlon 64 FX-57 can make bearable, and 2 HDR-enhanced SM3 tests. The new thing is that all of these are taken into consideration for your final score (rather than CPU and new features being seperate as in 05), so your CPU has a big effect on 3DMark score now, and you'll take a big hit if you don't have a Shader Model 2.0b/3.0 Compatable card (x700 or above from ATi, Go6600 or above on the nVidia side).
It's also looking like you'll take about a 50% hit on your overall score. Mine dropped from around 4250 to 2106. Obviously the way CPU scores are calculated have been redone (I got an 802, a bit down from the 3500 range most high-end Pentium-Ms were scoring in '05), but I think the FPS to score ratio on the graphics tests are about the same. Note not one of the tests was anything near smooth on my overclocked 256MB Go6800, so find a cup of coffee and a crossword when testing your GMA900 or x200M.
So that's the word. Nothing too revolutionary, but this should humble even those of you with Go7800s. Get out there, suffer the download (530MB, and very slow right now), suffer the tests, and post your scores!

Well get that thing up on torrent spy or something!!
This is taking forever, it would be nice to have a quick torrent download -
I hit 3360 no-O/C with my notebook. My best 05 score was 6884. I was hoping for more originality with 06, but it seems like a recycled 05 with just a couple of added videos.
I got it from Fileplanet (21 minute download). It's starting to pop up on some torrent sites, too. -

Thanks for the Info Lowly - I downloaded it earlier from GameSpot. Took a while, but I got it.
Here are my results:
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X700, GDDR2
OC'ed 400:390
973 Marks
SM 2.0 Score: 476
CPU 797
EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm using the latest Catalyst 6.1 drivers.
I'm going to run the test a few more times, that was only the first time I ran it. -
Alright, I got 3393, no overclock. Not too bad, it definitely looks like it's gonna be cutting everyone's numbers in half.
-
Does anyone know how 3DMark06 takes into account the difference screen resolutions it runs at? Because I ran it on 2 different PC's and it decided to max out the resolution of the monitor which would of course greatly affect the score.
-

Yeah - what resolutions are you running at? I ran at 1280x1024 and got 976 marks. . .
-
probably 1280x854 if the monitor doesn't support 1280x1024. yes, you get higher score with lower resolution.
see if it will be forced to 1024x768 if you run it on tv. -
I just run it at whatever it runs by default. I believe it is 1280x1024, I think it said that at one point. Anyone else run it yet?? It would be nice to see some more scores
-
why did they come out with a new one already? i thought they just did it every 2 years???
i won't even try it, i can play DOD:S on native resolution perfectly and that is all i care about ^_^ -

Here's an article on 3DMark06 - pretty interesting:

EDIT - Ran 3DMark again, clocks 400:400:

I have 698 at 410/430, 333 SM2.0, CPU 820.

I'd be interested in seeing what a 256MB X1600 gets . .
Looks like having 256MB of dedicated video memory is making a difference in '06, where the impact of 256MB vs 128MB didn't make as big of a difference in '05. -
i wonder if this version replicates better what playing a game is actualy like, rather than just running a fancy video like the others.
-
Well for me 3dm06 is like a slideshow. I didn't even watch it!
And yes Chaz - I believe 256 MB in the first place is responsible for a such better result. Interesting. Did you also have to install those updates for DX9.0c? What do they change?
Cheers, -

Yeah, it looks like a PowerPoint slideshow for me too. I'd think it would look like that for the majority of people out there.
I did install those DX 9.0c updates with 3DMark06, however, I have no idea what they did. Maybe they added support for something in there? That's what I'm thinking. . . something to do with SM3.0 maybe.
