Okay, so I was using my laptop, playing Minecraft, Black Ops, just some games that use the GPU. I was playing untill around 3:30. At 3:30 I packed it all up and went back to my house (I was at a friends house.). When I boot everything up and I start playing, I'm getting an average of 16 fps when playing. I've tried turning off the GPU, making sure I'm using it, and everything seems to be in order. It's not like the GPU isn't working, because when I turn if off, I get worse fps. I'm running it on a Alienware M17x R3 purchased July 4th, 2011.

Please don't post anything about me buying an Alienware. It's a great machine, it is what I wanted, I bought it and I'm happy. The GPU is the problem, not the machine.

Thanks to all of those who take the time to look at this problem, and to those that offer any help.

    Sincerely,
    Mitchell Norris

Everything is plugged in. Putting the machine into High Performance mode raised the FPS from ~16 to ~30, but doesn't compare to the ~600 I was getting in Balanced mode. (Minecraft Testing)

Make sure the game isn't in windowed mode or anything, simple things, reboot the pc, reinstall latest nvidia drivers, minimize the game and maximize it (works sometimes)

Did all of this. Nothing helped. It is clocked at the original clock, and even when i over clocked to 700, I didnt get much frame rate addition.

Just a small test, download ThrottleStop, launch it and turn it on, see if it changes something.
Also can you monitor your clocks with Msi Afterburner OSD, or use gpu-z with logging feature to see if your card downclocks.

have you taken the bottom plate of and cleaned the fans out.
if not you could be overheating and it auto downclocks.
as mentioned above download gpuz and hw monitor to check your temperatures.

Have you checked to make sure you're not in stealth mode?

No, I'm not in stealth mode. I downloaded afterburner, and it says that it remains about 40C at all times. I'm going to try uninstalling the drivers. Also, afterburner said that when playing Minecraft, It's running at about 80%, and I'm getting 27fps. I usually get 500fps without it breaking a sweat. I will examine the fans at this time. Thanks for the help, let's hope it works! :D

Arent dell drivers outdated? Or they are 280.26 whql?
If not having an old driver doesnt really help the performance you know.

I am also getting another problem, well before any of this has started. Every so often, while I'm playing games or on the internet, I will get a BSOD error of driver_power_state_failure or so. I'm running an M17X R3 with no new drivers installed. Any help is most appreciated.

download Who Crashed and post the results which gives a much better dump file.
