    Hi peeps,

for those of you with the 485m card, can you do me a HUGE FAVOUR and run the in game benchmark tests for Company of Heroes and ARMA 2 all on max settings.

I'm sure theres someone out there that owns CoH and the 485m. Id love to know how it performs on max res, max AA etc. These will be the main games i will be playing when i purchase my new machine. THese benchmarks don't appear to exist anywhere for this card on the web (old game i know :D)!

    Cheers,
    Matt

I can do both. Although CoH runs great on older hardware so I don't think it will be a problem. ArmA 2 will be tough because I don't believe there's a benchmark and FPS can vary a lot with that game.

CoH will be quick and easy with the built in benchmark though.

Arma 2 does have a benchmark in the demo and the full version hidden under the Singleplayer > Scenarios > 03: Benchmark. The problem is that the demo has been patched to an older less optimised version than the full game unless it has been updated since I last downloaded it.

HTWingNut thanks a lot, would be fantastic if you could provide the stats! LaptopNut is right about the benchmarking in ARMA2, give it a youtube.

+rep for both of you, plus some extra once the numbers are up!

    THanks guys.

ArmA2 is so CPU-bound that the unlocked 6950 in my desktop only gets 25-30 fps on the final mission.

Ah, I'll install the full game then and use that benchmark for ArmA 2.

And to be clear CoH you mean Company of Heroes right?

    ArmA 2

There are two benchmarks in ArmA 2, thanks to Laptop Nut for detailing the location. I haven't played this game in quite a while, may actually get back into it because it didn't play real well with my PC in the past, but looks decent now. Anyhow I used the full game on Steam for the benchmarks.

The first Benchmark ("Benchmark 1") is basically ground troops and a chopper flying around, with some volleying of shots back and forth. The second benchmark ("Benchmark 2") is a more intense furball with lots of explosions and fire and units, so probably a worse case scenario. Both benchmarks the camera is pulled back from the action a decent amount though, so not sure if that is representative or not.

First I set everything maximum, using advanced set to max, except AA at "normal", view distance default 3600.

    Benchmark 1: Min 21 Max 63 Avg 35
    Benchmark 2: Min 3 Max 23 Avg 17

The "Min 3" on bench 2 is most likely due to a stutter. I noticed the visuals pause for a very brief second, but overall it probably hovered around mid teens for the most part.

Then I just selected the default "Very High" which set the advanced settings as below.

    Benchmark 1: Min 30 Max 63 Avg 42
    Benchmark 2: Min 10 Max 23 Avg 18

    Company of Heroes

I set everything to Ultra, 2x AA. Only reason I only do 2x AA is because at native res it isn't really necessary IMHO. In any case probably wouldn't make this card hiccup. Using the built in benchmark "performance test" with these settings:
    Results: Min 29.8 Max 62.8 Avg 57.8
    [IMG]

It's almost as if the game is capped at 60fps though, since is pretty much hovered at 60fps. I know vsync isn't on unless it's forced or something by the game.

Nice one HTWingNut. If it wasn't telling me i had to spread it around more, id give you more rep!

Looks like ARMA2 is definately more than playable on the 485m/2720 config, and with room for switching on some eye candy too! Impressive figures for 1920x1080 res too. Its interesting that your max FPS for both settings and both benchmarks were the same. Is VSYNC turned on per chance?

Yes by CoH i mean Company of Heroes.

BTW your laptop spec in your sig is pretty much the same spec im going for other than the HDD. Im assuming the sig spec is what you used for your ARMA2 benchmark.

    In reply to CoH. ACE!

Looks like ill be playing CoH on full eye candy then! Fantastic news.

Once again thanks for supplying the stats. BTW have you done any other benching on this forum that i can take a look at? Would be nice to create a little library of user tests for the 485m/sandybridge config.

Might be that VSYNC is on within the NVIDIA control panel maybe? Seems like both games cap around the same FPS.

Nice benchmarks, I have Arma 2 but stopped playing on the GTX 285M because even at low settings it would lag so much. Considering you get higher results at fullHD compared to my 900p that is pretty good. I wonder how well Operation Arrowhead would perform too.

I should have my new laptop by next week some time and will bench Arma 2 as well. It will be interesting to see if the i7-2630qm shows any difference.

6970m is pretty much on par with the 485m, actually 485m fares slightly better in many benchmarks but for the most part the same.

What settings? Default "very high" or did you set all the advanced settings to "very high"?

I played Arma 2 on my laptop at fullHD and it is perfectly playable. For the best performance at such a high resolution I recommend disabling AA, having most settings at normal and post processing low. It looks great and the frame rate is anywhere from 30 - 50 fps. Not bad considering how poorly optimised that game is.

    @ HTWingNut

What GPU temps do you get under load?

What is the highest you have seen so far?

It goes to about 80C. I think 82C is the highest I've seen. I don't use max fan speed though usually. But if I do it can reduce top temp by minimum 6C.

Thanks, if you play GTA IV for a little while on the low fan speed, any idea what temps you get then?

Edit: Do those temps you mention occur while you have your fan speed set to low / normal or do you have the FN+1 enabled?
