Running a 680m and while I still get a solid-ish 60FPS on max without vsync, it's somewhat weird that the game still drops frames every now and then. Any ideas what's wrong?

What you are experiencing is most probably lag, not hardware issues.

Not according to the FPS and GPU utilization that MSI afterburner is showing me... It's definitely not a lag issue. Lag delays inputs, it doesn't bring down frames for me nor has it ever in DOTA2.

assuming it is actually dropping frames and not something else, it could be

    A) any other component bottlenecking performance in the instant that the frame rate drops
    B) however you got the GPU utilization figure, it's not a granular figure, it's a running average. In any particular instant, the GPU is more or less being utilized 100% or 0%. It's possible that the drops happen when there is a relatively long period of time (fraction of a second) where the GPU is rendering an unusually complex frame that is so for whatever reason.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. There's not necessarily anything you can do to improve performance, and the game is in beta. If it's bothering you a lot, try playing with the settings, and see if there is anything you can turn off in either the main game settings or a settings ini file that improves performance. Keep in mind that things might change drastically while the game is still in development.

How low do you drop? From 60FPS to what? And how long does it last?
