As long as you don't have many other apps running, you should get by. I really don't know for sure tho.

mem on G card? shared or not?

The X1600 doesn't do hypermemory. It basically has to have dedicated memory. So he should be fine. Just turn off all programs you don't need, IM programs, browsers, etc. Anything in the tray that's not essential. Upgrade ASAP though... sell your body if necessary ;) j/k

RAM affects a lot of things.

namely how quickly data can be accessed/processed/used

for extra extra free RAM space get rid of all the garbage services Windows loads up after every boot...go to services.msc in the run task bar....google every service to see if its required or not, if not, set to manual/disable. Then run msconfig and go to startup and get rid of RAM hungry programs --- raarr MMM.

There are hypermemory versions of the X1600 available, so it might be worth checking out if yours is hypermemory before you take the plunge. BF2 is a game that really, really likes 1gb. It'll run on 512mb, but you'll find it much easier with 1gb installed.

the x1600 sionyboy is talking about is the 512mb version with the 256mb hypermemory option... doesn't do much more than the 256mb option i don't think... benchmarks speak for themselves... basically listen to redsensistar... just turn everything off to maximize the 512 mb that you have... and you should be fine till you upgrade... that game will run on higher settings as that should be controlled by the gpu and not the ram. the ram affects multiple programs... if you shut everything else down and just play bf2... that should be fine, but the settings shouldn't affect ram as your gpu does not support hypermemory... so turn your settings up if you like, just don't run other programs while playing it...

Depends on what you are both doing on the internet. If one PC is on Bit Torrent, or another p2p program, and is uploading too much then the network will slow down. If you are both just browsing then you'll be fine.

That's what the  smiley was for, 31337. It was a joke. Don't dredge up old topics if you can help it, especially if they're not helpful additions to it.
