I have Satellite Internet, I get fast downloads but I cannot play online games. My average ping is around 3k. NO JOKE, When I tried WoW I stayed at around 2-6k. However I also have dialup for backup(stormy weather). My ping on WoW was about 900-1500. Playable.

So, I was wondering are there any other fun mmorpgs that are 56k friendly? I heard once that Guild Wars was but is that true? I want a game that is PvM, no PvP, as if I played someone on a faster connection I'd die in no time.

    Thanks.

Guild Wars is pretty nice. I have all three campaigns and I have to say, I don't regret buying them :D

Even if your ping is a bit high, it shouldn't affect you too much in PvE (PvM) in Guild Wars. Plus, you have henchmen and/or heroes with you, so it wont be the end of the world if you lag a bit.

Get the game, it's great. I heard a "Gold Edition" was coming out soon, with Guild Wars Prophecies (1st campaign) and Guild Wars: Eye of the North (newly released expansion). Maybe you should check it out.

Originally, Phantasy Star Online (now moved onto PSO Blue Burst) was designed for 56k so it might be worth checking out BB.

With Guild Wars you only pay for the games - its free to play after that.

Yeah phantasy star onine runs perfect on 56k I used to play it since all the way back in the dreamcast days when people only had dial up internet.

Keep in mind its not thruput (aka 56k) that matters so much as latency and I am not sure if satalite internet can give the same latencies as phone line stuff so it may run better/slower.

The newest one that I also own is phantasy star universe but I dont like it that much for some reason, and it probably requires broad band

Yeah the requirements for it was like 256k Internet. So, I bought Guild Wars GOTY and I'm gonna try it. Let's hope it works.

I don't want to play with other people, I want to solo but it's nice to have a little chatter going on so you know that people are around you. Kind of hard to explain. I always get some idiot in my party that refuses to work and just wants to sit and let everyone else do all the work so I got sick of party's unless I'm in a clan and playing with clanmates or friends.

I just wanted to give a little update. I've been playing Guild Wars.... obsessivly. I'll definitly buy a "gold" edition if they release it. I currently only have prophecies. At first I thought the game was going to be HORRIBLE! I have to download 11,000 files the first time I started up the game, plus the latest patch which was like 100MB. I used my satellite connection to download these files lol. Then while playing on 56k I occasionally encounter a download when I rezone but hardly ever big enough to take more than a couple minutes.

My ping stays in the range of 250-450 outdoors and 400-500 in towns. It's definitly playable on a 56k connection but you do have to be extremely patient for the updates if you don't have a faster connection.

Thanks for recommending this game. I love it. I've already joined a Guild and I'm having a ton of fun. No monthly payments so in my opinion it's better than most MMO's out there.

I'm only getting 28.8Kbps when I connect through dialup so most people will get a faster connection than me when they play. (I have static on my phone lines and I don't know how to fix it.)
