Never overclocked before. Checked around a little an hour or so ago. From what I understand the best clock is either 800/1100 or 850/1100.

Tried downloading two different AMD GPU Clock Tools. One would not start for me.. the other kept reseting to default clocks. Any help I can get as far as what programs to use? Also.. Should I overclock the processor at all? I have an i7 720QM, I believe.

Any tips, advice, or help is greatly appreciated.

Well there are two ways to do it. AMD GPU clock tool, but it has to be this version.

AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870 download from Guru3D.com

or you can flash it to whatever you want using ATIFLASH and RBE.

    I OC'd my 5870's to 850/1200.

here is the guide I used Credit to Mandrake

Credit to ZFACTOR for the Bootable USB thread

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/246530-how-flash-your-bios-dos-using-usb-stick.html

basically you put the ATIFLASH and the VBIOS files in the root of the Flashdrive.

Trixx wouldn't work on the Dell 5870's which is why I didn't recommend it, but it may work on the Asus one. Definitely worth a try!

Trixx definitely works on the Dell 5870m.

Might be a CF issue, I never worked with dual card systems, but it works like a charm on a single 5870m.

If you want to use the latest Video drivers (W/O issues) on the ASUS g73jh you will need to flash the VBIOS. there is a guide to flash VBIOS with optimal clock settings so you will not have to use RBE. G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update
That way you can use OverDrive in CCC to OC.
I have the 820 QM (virtually the same processor) and have never found a need to OC it.
This may also come in handy for drivers and the tools to flash the VBIOS
G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference
See Betas for the specific files I mentioned.
Modded v93 vBIOS with lower timings for battery life (updated)
That is the one I am using and it works flawlessly.
NOTE more than 1 person has bricked their machine flashing the VBIOS and this is not directly supported by ASUS.
Kudo's to Chastity BTW the D/L site may be down at the moment, she is aware of that and is working on it.

Thanks for the help guys. I download the correct amd clock tool and it seems to work. Can't get my clock THAT high though.. Always seems to crash at about 850/1100 and sometimes less. I was thinking of doing some upgrading.. anyone know if it's at all possible to switch out for a higher gpu or add a second for xfire? I doubt this as the chassis most likely has no room, but I heard the card wasn't sautered to the MB. So maybe can switch out for a better single gpu?

I think that while your card is not soldered to the motherboard, the slot is not exactly easy to fit any GPU so Im not sure how much you can upgrade. I hope they are not using the inverted MXM module like they used to.

Besides the obvious part of having to disasemble mosf of the notebook to do so haha.

As for overclocks, I can't overclock my memory much myself, only the core. My best clocks have been 910/1070 but they are not stable for gaming, just benching. I use 860/1060 when gaming because I can game for hours and everything's stable, but I wish I could achieve stable memory at 1100 like you guys.

Tried 860/1090 and it froze up. Will continue to experiment. What are the cards higher than 5870m atm? I could go test a few out, let everyone know what I find.

    Trixx is amazing.
    790/1090 stable for me

The highest i can do on my HD 6970m is 860/1050.

But i agree on TriXX being bada** to OC AMD / ATI GPUs. :D

Sounds like you could use a Voltage increase which you can get through a VBIOS flash. I had to up mine to 1.1V from 1.05V to be stable at 850/1200.

    Mine is stock 1.150 apparently. Should I clock something a bit lower? All my temps are great at this clock. Just freezes in game... But the performance is so amazing at these clocks ;~;

EDIT: I've been experiencing small annoying bits of lag in games that I'm not used to lagging in such as bc2 lately :c (Before OC)

Reduce memory an up the core. with little memory clocks i can get over 900 core speeds.

I game at 860/1060 because that way my temps are low, my performance is great and I have 100% stability. 880/1070 is stable 99% of the time, depends on the game and how many hours. 900/1050 is relatively stable, but I prefer complete stability and controlled temps.

That VBIOS is good but a bit dated. If you run into any issue with it PM me I would be glad to email you a copy of the .rom file I am using (which will also be available when Chastity's get her site up)
G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference
    see betas.
I assume you have figured out that voltages are locked at .95 or 1.15 .

Yes. Mine is locked at 1.15. PMing you now. I can't handle any overclock well, it seems. PMing you now for the vbios :]
