5850m is the same as the 5870m, only clocked slightly lower. It can be easily brought to 5870m levels and far beyond. So still better than a 555m.

i found a great deal on an hp laptop from pcworld, that has 5850 and a 740qm around 700 pounds. on the other hand i can setup a clevo laptop around 690 pounds with a 2630 qm and a 550 gt. think is, arent hp laptops very bad? as far i as heard ppl got problems with them constantly and their service is poor right?

As long as it is GDDR5 because that is what the difference it here.

The 555M is DDR3 which is like wiping your a**e with sand paper for gaming these days and the 5850M also comes with the GDDR3 version so you want to make sure before buying that laptop that it is 100% GDDR5.

    All 5870M are GDDR5.

555m also comes with sandy bridge so on cpu dependent games like sc2 you should be on par with 5870.

but 5870 is faster like the others said.

that would be true, provided the old Core i7 was a bottleneck to begin with. Which isnt true.

My old GTX260m plus Core i7 720 were maxing SC2 at 1920x1080 at 25 fps. My HD5870m is pushing it a good deal 20fps more.

Hd5870m will still give better performance.
