Do you guys think 60fps is worth the graphic trade off? It appears that in order to get a solid 60fps on some cards, you have to decrease certain graphical options. IYO, Is the trade off worth it? Is there a happy medium - for example; 45fps. Discuss

It depends on the genre. Things that require twitch action or reflex will benefit from 60 and higher FPS. The more information you can see, the better. Provided input lag is minimal.

But on some genres like slower paced RTS or general strategy games, even 30 fps feel at home, because decisions are much more relevant than twitch reaction.

Fighting games definitely require high fps too.

What about fast paced action games - Assassin's Creed, Shadows of Mordor, Batman, etc. I imagine they may fall in line fighting games/twitch reaction

I can tell you that 45fps or so on Batman and AC type games is just fine... though I kind of got spoiled with my 120Hz now... I actually kind of drop settings in BF4 etc to maintain 120 constant XD

As D2 mentioned, Those games are not really "fast paced" as twitch shooters like Call of duty. 30fps can work, 45fps are good enough and 60fps are eye candy. This is because while action is fast paced, it is also animation driven, meaning you are not actively performing the attacks but instead relying on timing, which in such games tends to be with small windows of slow-mo to get it right.

Games that rely in atmosphere and are not very fast paced, are best enjoyed with high quality sound and graphics even if you have sub 60 fps. But games like battlefield and Call of duty, you might be complaining much more than enjoying the game when playing under 60fps. Regardless of how good they look hahaha.

I mainly play FPS, so I will lower graphics settings as needed to obtain 60 FPS if not higher since I've overclocked my display to 100 Hz and see real benefit to higher frame rates.

Witcher 2 is the only game where I've deliberately sacrificed 60 FPS for better visuals because it's so darn pretty. I play it with an Xbox 360 controller and probably average around 45 FPS at 1080p Ultra w/o Ubersampling. The SLI microstutter is pretty annoying below 40 FPS and combat loses some of its fluidity and responsiveness.

PlanetSide 2 is a game where it's basically impossible to keep a 60 FPS minimum, no matter how powerful your hardware is, because the game and engine is just so poorly optimized. It's CPU-bottlenecked, hitches, and leaks memory like crazy.
