Hey I currently got a second chance offer on ebay for $680 shipped for a Dell 9100. It conists of a 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 card. How good is this card? Is it good for gaming? Will I get by well on this laptop or will I suffer with games?b

I Used to have an Emachines M6809 with a 64mb 9600/9700 series graphics card. Basically, this card was pretty weak. I managed to run half-life 2 at 800x600 with most of the eye candy, but the framerate was not very consistent (15-40fps). I would pass, and get something better.

Hmmm... for that price - I would wait for Dell to offer some good deals on their e1505 with ATI x1400 but I think even at 64mb the 9700 may out perform the x1400. Though I would be careful with these "2nd chance" offer on ebay

I own Asus W3N which is running on 64 MR 9700, It's pretty good to me as it handles all the games I have. such as Doom3, battlefield2 (keep the reso at the lowest level for sure) still looks good to me though but don't expect great performance out from it

The graphics card is pretty good. You can run all the latest games. Dont expect to play on 1600x1200 with 4xAA on it , it would still play all the latest games...

for that price you can get a better card. Try searching the dell outlet for a E1505, the 9700 is a nice card but I am happier with my X1400 and the E1705 system (I also have a 9100).

Runs cooler, is lighter and battery lasts forever next to the I9100

The x1400 will definitely outperform the 9700; the 9700 is more functionally equivalent to the x600.

If it only has 64MB of RAM, forget it - that's not going to get anywhere in the latest games. The MR9700 is limited as it is. It was once at the top of its game, but not anymore - qualifies as more of a low-end card.

I agree that you would be better off with the X1400 in the Dell E1505.

I had this card on my Sony s2xp and it performed pretty well. It got around 11,000 3DMarks 01... I actually preferred it over the nVidia 6600 on my Toshiba Tecra M3 (mainly because this card was underclocked about 25%). I could run games at med - high settings without problems. I ran NFSMW at med settings and it was smoother and quicker than the nVidia 6600 (25% underclocked).
