Ok i purchased an HP dv6 the a6-3400m 4gig ram and ati 6755 G2 graphics card. Now all i wanted to play in terms of games for this laptop was Rift while i traveled. I installed the calalyst mobility 11.8 drivers for this have crossfire enabled and have moved all the ati catalyst sliders to performace state. Im very disapointed im getting 13-20FPS in the very lowest settings for this game. From what i read and saw on reviews i should be getting better performance then this as ive heard people getting better performance out of a intel integrated card for this game. Is there something i should be doing to get more performance out of this machine or should i head back to bestbuy and return it?? If someone could lend some advice/hand asap need to figure this out before i leave for 3 months on monday.

The drivers for Hybrid Crossfire are still relatively new and problematic. Do you get any better performance without Crossfire? Try it with just the 6755.

exact same results with or without crossfire. Are there maybe better drivers i should try rather then the catalyst 11.8 mobilities i installed?? Also with my A6 im not sure that it is actually running at the 2.4 it should be when im gaming how can i check this??

Are you sure that it's using the 6755 when crossfire is disabled? You can check speeds by using a utility like CPU-Z or HWInfo.

GPU-Z or HWinfo should tell you which GPU is active.

hmm alt tabbed back to cpu-z and seems the clock speed is only going up to 1514mhz max and was at 800mhz before i started rift. I though the a6-3400m was a 2.3/1.4 ghz processor so its not going up to its max and its low is below its supposive low. Also the only graphics i see when going under the graphics tab is the 6520G

It looks like you're just running on the integrated then. Do any other games have problems?

Also, the 2.3 number is when it turbos. Usually that only happens on one core (with intel, I don't know how AMD handles turbo). If it's 1514 on all cores, that means it's overclocking all cores slightly. 1.4 appears to be the max clock speed before Turbo.

well should it not boost up the core that im running rift on to 2.3ghz then or is there a way to get it to do that? Also havent tried it. Only game i play and have really. Gonna try installing the graphics drivers HP has on their website for it to see if that does anything

Rift is multithreaded, so it's running on more than one core.

You have to use the 11.6b drivers, those give the best performance. Use Driver Sweeper, and uninstall all AMD drivers.

ok uninstalled ATI drivers. Used driver sweeper on the rest. Now installing the 11.6b Hotfix from 3dguru.com. Is this a full driver version or should i have installed 11.6 then 11.6b on top of it?? Kinda curious because it didnt even ask for a reboot after finishing the install and besides ati catalyst control center show up all graphical display settings stayed the same

Display settings should've stayed the same, but you can't just install the horrid, I think. You need a driver to install it on.

well i have the 11.6b installed and cpu-z still only shows the 6520g no 6750. Pretty much the same fps al lowest settings for rift as well. Im at a loss. Device manager shows both the 6520g and the 6750m but i just dont know if the 6750m is actually running when rift is. Ive heard of people getting better frames with an intel HD 3000 and i would think that this 6755g2 should produce better results then the HD 3000 or am i wrong??

Have you tried manually setting rift to use the high performance GPU?

That's your power supply. If you don't have enough power for the computer when it's at full load, how is it supposed to run at max performance?

It's like trying to redline a car engine when you're low on oil... not a good idea. ;) Get the right power adapter.

no i totally understand that but at the same time shouldnt the 6750M part of the graphics also be able to run strictly off of the batter with no power supply??

No, when you try to run most laptops on battery, or a lower power supply, it throttles very badly. Example: My M15x gets about 9000 3DMark Vantage plugged in. Less than a thousand on battery. Just ran it again, on the m11x power supply? 1200. So, you need the right adapter.

Yes, but you have to force it in Catalyst Control Center by going to Powerplay and setting Battery to Max Performance.

But you still need the right power adapter if you want maximum performance, laptops still don't get 100% on battery.

If you ran full out with an improper AC adapter, you'd still drain the battery and the laptop would eventually (probably quicker than you'd think) shut off due to lack of power. Not to mention perhaps damaging the battery or worse, shorting out something internally from a power surge.

ok well i have the ac adapter the proper 120w one now. It has improved the fps but really only slightly getting probably 15-25fps minimum settings now. In catalyst control center i only have balanced and power saving option no high performance.
