Hey! The laptop I have been considering to purchase carries a 6770m GPU, and I am curious as to what I will be able to play on it.

More specifically; this computer - HP Pavilion dv6 and dv6t series | HP Official Store

I will be ordering it with all default settings, but with the 1GB 6770m instead. So its about an i3 processor.

At what settings could I play games like Civilization V, Sims 3, and Left 4 Dead 2, and at what speeds? I did look on notebookcheck but none of the laptops tested seem to have similar specifications as this one.

Any responses are appreciated, thank you.

It will play those games like a dream at high detail most likely.

Oh thank you! I was looking for a definite answer. Civilization V on at least medium would be amazing, so again, thanks for the response!

I would spring for a Core i5 if you can. Its turbo boost function (which the i3 lacks) is handy for CPU limited games.

True, a faster chip would help with Civ V, but not really necessary. Usually you can get an i5 for $50-$75 price upgrade.

I will try to rake in the extra cash to see if I can upgrade to the i5, since If I am going to get a laptop I want it to be the best it can be. T Y!

Might I ask; what is the turbo boost?

Turbo boost is a "feature" of Intel chips that will automatically overclock under certain circumstances to give you a speed boost temporarily.

I played Civ5 for several hours last night with no issues - 1080p, all high.

    dv6tqe with the i7-2670, 6770m, 8gb ram

You have the quad core though. I believe Civ 5 is multi-threaded, meaning it takes advantage of more cores. As far as graphics are concerned, the 6770m will be no issue. But for end of turns, a quad will churn out the AI much more quickly than any dual core.

That was one of my main concerns; hopefully the i5 will make it go by smoother. of course I wouldn't be upgrading my processor just to make Civ 5 turns quicker!

i5 is a worthy upgrade in general if you do plan on playing games though. But only if it's < $100 more IMHO.

Sounds good. It is only a $75 upgrade so I think I will go with that. Thanks for the help!
