Hello, I have just bought a HP notebook with the 6770m GPU (1 GB) and i7 2630QM (2 GHz). I play StarCraft 2 on it (highest settings and 1366x768 resulution), before I often got around 35-42 fps on these settings. But I have made some changes in CCC (Catalyst Control Center), and now I get around 65-73 fps most of the time instead. How can that be?
I have also HP CoolSense on "coolest setting", so the computer is around 74 degrees celsius as hottest.

    CCC settings:
    § Anti-Aliasing - Use application settings (Filter - Standard)
§ Anisotropic Filtering - Use application settings
§ Tessellation - Use application settings
§ Catalyst A.I - Performance (Surface Format opt. - Disable)
§ Wait for vertical refresh - Performance (Always off)
    § Anti-Aliasing Mode - Performance (Multi-sample AA)
§ OpenGL Settings - Triple buffering enable

Wow, that's incredible. I'm getting like 50FPS in 2v2 and dips below 20 in big battles. Maybe this can be explained because some games have more action in them than others making results inconsistent? Can you test before/after using one replay?

Edit: I will also test using your settings.

Yeah, I was amazed by it when I first saw it. I will check into that. All I can say right now is that I haven't seen the fps go below 65 ever in a match. I will post my results when I have them. Thanks for the quick answer!

Im gonna try this right now...

EDIT: I tried it and I have to say that it made absolutely zero difference in FPS while playing a 2v2 be it in a huge battle or not (same map was used with stock CCC settings and with modified while testing). Also, with all stock CCC settings, I get amazing FPS using these settings in the game. I get about 55 FPS when not a whole lot is going on, and in 4v4 during a huge battle, it never dips lower than 40 FPS. Im not gonna change anything becuase I get perfectly fine results with stock CCC settings on 11.5b hotfix.

o_O If this also works for someone, can they throw it at 1080p and check the fps too?

are you guys even comparing using the same systems?

ps, SCII is a VERY CPU heavy game.

Lol most of us from HP forums (dv6/7). Since SC2 only takes up to advantage of 2 cores, and the i5 is faster by core than the 2630qm, I'd say it is a fair assessment.

I highly recommend you switch to 1080P... It looks SOOOO much better. To counter it, just lower shaders to high and post processing will auto lower to medium. I did not notice any degradation of graphics, and frames are easily high enough (said in previous post).

I noticed that shaders are the big killer in performance if you put them on ultra...

Yeah I've noticed that small units are badly pixelated and things aren't as crisp as 1920x1080. The only problem is that when I started playing SC2 it was on a 1366x768 resolution laptop. Going to 1920x1080 completely screws up the mouse since there would be more area to scroll over while the speed remains the same.

I was just using Ultra settings to test, but these are my actual settings for 60FPS (in 1v1).

Take my advise and switch to 1080... It will take a little while to get used to it, but you will. If you need to, just increase the sensitivity of the mouse in the SC settings. Copy my settings I took a screenshot of in a previous post and never look back...

I actually tried to switch for about a one week period, but even after setting the mouse sensitivity to 100% (I normally play at 80% in 1366x768) and increasing the sensitivity in the control panel it still didn't feel right so I switched back. It doesn't bother me too much though since for me performance takes priority over graphics.

Get a mouse with a higher dpi than you have now. That way you can play at 1080p, not have your sensitivity so high, and be more accurate (guess that applies more to a fps though). :D
