Before people start flaming me to use the search button, I have done my search on a topic related to this. But what I found was an old unanswered thread, so I decided to make a new one, hopefully with clear answers. So as the title says, which card is better at over clocking? Which card can stay at a cooler temp?
And a side question is, which last longer in terms of battery life, when not gaming?
-
680m cause it is $300 more.
Battery life is same when not gaming. aka optimus/enduro. -

Hmm, I heard rumors that the 7970m's enduro hinders its performance while gaming, due to poor drivers. Does that make the 680m better in performance? And other rumors have it that the 7970m might outperform the 680m if better drivers were to be released. Is this true?

However, this is without overclocking. -
I have HM barebone and my fps are similar as the 680m,except in some games for about 1-4 frames defference....and some on 7970m via versa.
The true power of 7970m is on HM AND ALIENWARE. -

On stock they are on par. Both overclock well and easily.
680m has a much higher performance ceiling. With both you can get a healthy OC and performance. With 680m you can be more aggresive but I don't think you will use such clocks for regular every day use so...
I think both will suit you well, specially with mild OC for free performance. I got my machine for a good deal but otherwise I would have gotten an Hd7970m as the price for stock performance is simply too much for the GTX 680m. It does have stellar performance though. -
i have a question,if you ov+oc(except the 3dmark11 or vantage)in games you can see the defference of fps or not?
because i dont remember the article that i saw,it says that if you ov+oc it doesnt perform well in fps.
it perform like as only oc.
i think it was a test from anandtech-where they compare stock-oc-ov+oc 680m. -
I was planning on maybe OCing it to 950/1400, on stock voltage. These settings seem pretty ideal.
I was also wondering for OCing. It says, the 680m is a GTX 670 with a 21% downclocked core and 40% downclocked memory, while the 7970m is an HD 7870 with a 15% downclocked core but has the same memory speed. Is it possible to overclock each card to meet the specs of their desktop counterparts? Or better yet can the 7970m overclock to a 670GTX? -
680m is a lot faster when overclocking, plus you get the physx on certain games like borderlands. I may get a 680m on my m18x in the near future.
680m vs 7970m overclocking
