I am looking at getting a gaming laptop. and looking over at passmark they rate the 6870m @ 20 while the 560m/570m in the 50's

i readothers saying the 6870 is on par withthe 560m

im not fixated on ati/nvidia I want a laptop that plays the current games without a hickup

560m and 6870m perform in a similar realm. 570m should about betwen 15 and 30% better than either on stock.

The 570M wins out easily, as it's just slower than a 6970M.

    Slower by a tiny bit, 3-5% :)

Don't think so, vantage GPU score, 3dmark11 GPU score, the 2 scores value GPUs the most say otherwise: 570M being 9% slower in vantage GPU, 31% slower in 3dmark11 GPU. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M - Notebookcheck.net Tech and I don't think that translates only to 3-5% difference in real world performance. Notebookcheck's benchmarks can be a little off from time to time, but can't be THAT off.

31% difference sounds like a bad comparison frankly... the 570m vs 6970m at stock speeds are close... sounds like an insanely OC'd 6970m and an underclocked 570m with old drivers.

Kinda similar to the claims AMD made about the 6990m being so much faster than the 580m, and then pretty much regularly being beat by it.

3-5% difference with certain games being higher and lower and of course overclock luck being the biggest difference sounds about right.

A reminder that 3dmark always seems to be higher for AMD than the rest of the benchmarks would indicate.

The results come from notebookcheck itself, check the link in my previous post if you have any doubts, and I don't think they are stupid enough to compare an overclocked card against an underclocked card, nor would they handicap the 570M on purpose. In fact, notebookcheck has always been biased against AMD cards, they once even claimed "560M being faster than 6970M".

Performance wise, 570M is a lot closer to 560M than to 580M despite it has a lot more cores than 560M.

Dependng on resolution, the GTX570m reaches near the HD6970m more often than not. The main issue with the card is that it has almost the same memory bandwith as an HD5870m, so any memory intensive task will perform slower like playing with AA and high res compared to HD6970m.

Notebookcheck has a pretty bad reputation for being inconsistent in their comparisons. They're only really a rough guide.
