Just curious as to what kind of overclocks 6990M users are getting. I've seen quite a few peeps with 840+ on the core and 1200+ on the memory. The best I can achieve is 820/1225 for a full 3DMark 11 run.

Temps are about 78C after running Furmark for 5 mins while my laptop is sitting on a cooler on my lap. Just can't break 820 on the core, what gives?

i don't have a 6990m (rather a 6630m), but each chip is built different; some can be OC'd more than the others.
on my 6630m, i had to increase the core voltage by 5mv from 0.9V to 0.905V (that is, 900 to 905 in TRiXX) to be able to OC the chip higher than its limit on the stock voltage. i now have it OC'd from 485 core/800 memory to 725 core/950 memory (which is even higher than 6730m clocks) and am getting more than 20% improvement in 3DMark06 with everything completely stable.
try increasing the core voltage in 5mV increments and see if you can break your clock barriers too. just make sure to monitor GPU temperatures constantly, as you don't want to be running a volcano in your laptop just to get a 2% increase in 3DMark score.

You alienware guys are lucky. Hynix (i think its Hynix anyway) memory overclocks pretty high. I max out at 835/1100 on both cards.

A little off topic, but could you tell me what software you are using to overclock your 6990m?
MSI afterburner wont let me OC above 740/1000.

stop pushing your memory so damm high haha, you will get far more benefit from core overclocking considering the huge memory bandwidth the HD6990m has.

QFT and it also makes your card run cooler too. I run it on 800/1000 even though I could go around 830/1100 safely.
