I was reading a 6990M review on notebookcheck.net and saw that they achieved 35 fps in Dirt 3. I ran the same in-game benchmark with the same settings (1920x1080 4x AA) and vsync off and achieved 83 fps. Any idea what is going on here?

notebookcheck happened, btw the drivers that you used should be new, and have you OCed the card?

Yeah, using the 12.2 preview drivers and yeah, it's overclocked to 820 (mem left at 900 for heat reasons). Didn't think that new drivers and a slight OC could make a 45 FPS difference.

    What settings they're / you're using?
Between high and ultra preset the difference is around those 20-30fps so be sure you're benchmarking the game at ultra/4xAA/1080p.
My gtx485m can do 50fps average at ultra/8xCsaa with 720/1850 oc.

I can garentee you dont have the settings correct in comparison to nbc. An updated driver and OC will probably net you some increase in performance, but nowhere near double unless there was a severly flawed driver when the benchmark on that website was done.

Is it normal to achieve 35 fps with that settings all in high but 2 settings in ultra. in 1920x1080 , and was tested with i7 740qm and asus g73jh laptop

The benchmark is not the same all the time as I ran it three times and the car came 8th, 3rd then 7th so it could change the score. My m18 gets 94 fps on 1080p, Ultra and 4xAA (cat 12.1).

Try to achieve this by updating the graphic card driver. I hope this should resolve your problem. It is necessary that the driver be updated. Check for the latest driver of your video card.

Seems like there is some misunderstanding in my post. I'm not having any issues. I'm just trying to figure out how notebookcheck only socred 35fps in Dirt 3 when I was able to score 85fps under the same settings. All of my settings are on Ultra, res is 1080p, AA is 4x.

It seems a bit hit and miss. The first time I ran it I got 65 fps and its was set to 2xAA. The next day I ran it three times one after the other using 4xAA and got ~94 fps for all three. I don’t think its a very good benchmark as the main car finishes in different places so it can have more or less work depending on how much of a fight there is in the race.

I am running 2 6990m in Crossfire so getting 85fps with one seem a bit high.

It could be the options in the Catalyst Controls Center as they could have a big affect on the results (Tessellation, A.I, V Sync and type of AA).

The point here is that you're achieving 94fps with crossfire 6990m (so dual gpu) while he's getting 85fps with a single card.
If that's true if he goes crossfire he could do 170fps compared to your poor "94fps".
See now? Something doesn't add up. 85fps on ultra is a desktop card territory like gtx570 or 6970, so someone needs to explain me how he can with a 6990m do that score.

Edit: the other possible reason is than the game is running in dx9 for some reason instead of dx11, that could explain the difference. Check your hardware config file in MyDocuments/Dirt 3.
