So I'm having some issues with a year and a half old 6990M. After repasting the GPU, using Battlefield 3 as a benchmark, I get around 82-83 degrees on full load. However, after only a week or two, my temps go back to 90-92 on full load. After I repasted again, the same thing happened, good temps for a week or two then high temps again. What could be causing this?

EDIT: Also like to add that the laptop is at a rough 30% angle off the table(put some books under it to keep the screen at eye level) and I also have a Zalman Laptop Cooler.

when was the last time you cleaned out the fans and vents with compressed air?
this is the number 1 cause for rising temps.

instead of compressed air you can remove the heatsink and use a vacuum cleaner :)

ICD and PK-1 are pretty much the highest regarded thermal pastes. I have seen a lot of people complain about Arctic Silver before. I never tried it.

All the Arctic brands I've used were fine, and worked just as well as IC Diamond and PK- from my experience. I would be cautious with using a vacuum cleaner near electronics due to the risk of static electricity damaging components too. I've read that compressed air is a safer method :)

Bump! Cleaned up with compressed air, getting roughly same temps. Repasted again for the third time this month and temps are down to 82-83 again.

What method are you using to repaste your gpu? I repasted my 6990m's yesterday for the first time and used the pea method and I've noticed better temps so far.. and that's using some Best Buy Antec 7 thermal paste.. nothing fancy. I didn't blow out the heat sinks as they still looked clean.
