Driver giving out? What are you talking about?
Also, if you've never seen a GPU (specially in a notebook) fry or become unusable following a period of intense stress, please continue OC to extreme values, you're in for a surprise soon..
OC notebooks and desktops is two different worlds.

I know that heat can permanently damage a video card, but if the card is not overheating when it starts artifacting the card will be permanently damaged?
About the driver giving up, it is not the driver it is the card that is not working properly so some results are not calculated the way it should or are not writen back the way it should, or some memory things are not read ok. -
so while nvidia is unlocking physX, is this not driver related?
driver meaning: you are limited to how much they let you get out of your chip.....
and there was a whole paragraph about needing an upgraded cpu or to run fsb to up your scores along with what you would need to obtain those scores. not to mention the part about it can be any 8600m gt with any cpu. and your gpu is limited by your cpu. you dont need more mhz's you need more cpu speed at this point. very easy to prove... down clock your cpu speed and try them over clocks again..bet you dont even come remotely close. now dont get me wrong udi, im not bashing in any way, it's just a fact. just as you now have the record for the 8600m gt single card...i have the records for the 8800m gts cards for 3 resolutions.
edit: http://mekk.homeip.net/3dmarkcalc/3DMark2006Calculator1.2.zip
im sure you already have this, but this is for the over clockers that don't.
put in your highest 3dmark score then calculate it. now delete the cpu score and put in 2750 which would equal an x9000. and see what you get just from that. now of course your 2.0 and 3.0 scores would go up by a few 100 points, but no way to tell how much. -
No, just restart the computer when it's artefacting. The card itself can witstand ~120C
-
what kind of 3dmarks are you getting with this asus? because this looks like a potential 7k record breaker.... -
-
they have new drivers...give it a stab....
now if some one were to come in with this laptop running a x6800 chip..... i would think he could make a pretty good stab at hitting 7k (speculation of course) -
I just did it with 177.35 and I got 3096. ~1150 in the graphics score and 2050 in the CPU score.
My graphics card was running at 475/1330/500 -
mah bad...
thought you had this model, but the lower end version that was upgradeable

Haha, I just ran it - 3297, but my graphics card is recognized as a Go 8600 GS with an 8600M GT driver. Odd. Now to try new drivers, then overclocking. But theres no way I'm going to get 6k, much less 7k.
-
lol seriously good luck with this, my laptop with an 8800m GTS cant hit 7000, im sitting at about 6900 constantly, and I have the sh!T bottom barrel of core 2 duos.
-
-
man i dont care about my 3dmark score, plus i have rele ****ty drivers, I can play pretty much everything maxed anyways so it doesnt matter. A new CPU will help, im looking at getting a T8300 when Montevina is released, so i can get one cheap, or an X9000
-
edit: besides...i dont like that word "can't" if there is anyway possible to get the job done... -
the newest most updated one would be nice. i heard whipsers of physx support as well....true or not?
-
people are playing around with the 175.19's (shader optimized) right now and the 177.35's and 39's.
but im sure you have seen this already. so give me a number.
just ran it @ 1.6 ghz and got a 7062 using 175.19 drivers. and they run games pretty well -
ahhh ok, well ill try em out if I gaming anytime soon, I game alot more on my PS3 lately
-
but thought i needed the new samsung instinct phone so got that first.

http://www.say-it-loud.com/nv_disp_17519.inf
delete the nv_disp and replace it with this one here.
edit: now after you install and reboot, go into the nvidia control panel and check the 3d settings to see what they have you set as using globablly. i forgot to do it the last time. want to see if a fresh install sets the aa to 8x. thanks. -
this is impossible. The closest I have gotten is 4694. I might be able to get another 200 points if I switch to XP, but I hear XP 64 isn't as driver friendly as Vista 64.
-
why would you want to melt your gpu?
-
Well, I removed the black tape inside and managed to get it upto 4700.
If I get a decent bonus when my work contract ends in 4 weeks, I'll upgrade to a T9300 CPU to see if that boosts my 3DMark06 to mid 5000s. It costs $320, almost half what I paid for the machine  + it will void my warranty... -
good luck guys but imo this really sounds like a bad idea, especially with that news out that all the G84's were defective in some way...
-
Can the T61p particapate in this challenge?
Getting to 7000 benchmarks in 3dMark06 IMO would require a hearty OC on the T9300 along with the GPU. -
To get 7000 you`d need an X9000 in a 17 inch laptop + the 8600M GT DDR3 or the FX570M.
7000 3dmark with 8600m gt challenge thread!
