I wanted to buy a new gaming notebook soon but recently i noticed 2 new innovations in notebook world, the Haswell and 700m series. Now im wondering how is the 765m and 770m (780m way to expensive for me) compared to the 670mx - 675mx or 680m?
And is it worth picking for game notebook that has Haswell over a Ivy bridge one when they have same speeds?
-
-
well if you can afford the 780m you can see the 770m as a good option.
Its very strong gpu with 75w very cool and cheap.
Its 20% slower than a 680m stock to stock.
Your choice is your's
-
Can the 770m be more compared to 670mx or 675mx, or is it perhaps faster then those two?
-
it's faster than those 2
-
Its 12-15% slower than GTX680m so yes it is quite faster.
-
What's the difference in price for Haswell vs IVB?
-
Get a notebook with a 770 that has the ability to upgrade later to 780.. more that Haswell is here don't look back to ivy.
-
Haswell doesn't actually have a lot more benefit over IVB in video gaming. The only real addition is AVX2 which games won't be programmed for for another couple of years. Even then, considering not many games are CPU bottlenecked, it won't matter. As such, if he is getting IVB for a lot less, may be twenty or so percent, I don't think Haswell is a good idea.

Good luck finding a 770M gpu on ivy bridge without buying it separately. I think Haswell+770M is cheaper than ivy+680M. I wasn't really singing the praises of Haswell, more what's in the market with 700M parts. -
Huh? I didnt know you could upgrade GPU on notebooks, is this something new? And never seen hardware stores sell notebook GPU's either.
-
You can upgrade replaceable graphics cards, but they are becoming less common these days. Alienware 17 and 18"- sagers larger models, many larger msi models...but confirm for the laptops you are considering if this is an option. Also, it's usually not very cheap but if you wait you may find a deal at some point.
-
They are not off the shelf parts usually and they tend to cost a bit. They are a far cry cheaper than replacing the entire notebook when you only want to upgrade the one part than is responsible for a majority of the gaming performance though. Considering most ivy and haswell CPU are already plenty to drive mobile GPU.
-
I'm just saying budget conscious people may want to look here. If you just want to recycle the entire notebook on some interval and don't care about upgrading it's obviously not going to help.
Oops sorry meant to edit that not post again... -
Actually I assumed OP already had found such a system because they specifically asked if Haswell is better than IVB. It is true what you say though, If you can find a Haswell + 770m system for cheaper than a comparable IVB system or evenone that is more expensive yet has a slight advantage, like the IVB + 680m, I concur that it would be better to purchase the Haswell system.
