I'm currently thinking of getting either the Dell 1210 w/ 7400go, or the Asus W3J (X1600). Both about the same price, but the dell is smaller, and less powerful.
But I mainly play just sports games, with the odd FPS or two occasionally, so I just want to know, is the 7400 go good enough for what I want? Or should I be opting for the X1600?

For Modern sports games i would recommend the X1600 in the W3J or any other laptop. Its easily twice as powerful at the 7400/x1400. You will be glad you did if you plan on keeping it for any period of time.
Go for the W3J. -
I read that the 1210 can run Half Life 2 on high settings smoothly in the review on this site, would this mean that the 7400GO is more than capable for sports games?

The Go7400 should be perfectly fine for the occasional gamer. Stick with the M1210 if you want the most portability, and also consider the Compal HGL30 (14", Go7600 256), Asus W7J (13.3", Go7400), and Sony SZ (13.3", Go7300), although I don't like the keyboard at all on the latter.

You don't need to spend a lot to play the games you want. The X1400/7400 will play all recent sport games available. The only two games my computer has trouble with is FEAR and Prey, and they still play it fine for me. -

Would I be able to do any light video editing on a 7400 GO?

Dont go around idolizing your X1400's amd 7400's so much, they are not very powerful to run newer games on high settings with eye candy.
Kinda stupid though Dell doesnt sell the X1600 on there E1505 Line -
To be honest, I'm trying to get out of computer gaming, so by not having such fast hardware, I think it can help my widthdrawal
.
Does the 7400Go in the M1210 only have 64mb of dedicated ram? How much does the W7J have? I don't think I'll look at the SZ since it doesn't have s-video out. -

Yes, the M1210 I believe only has 64mb dedicated, well then I guess a 7400 will be fine for you.

I wouldn't let the 'only 64MB' of dedicated VRAM deter you from looking at the M1210 - it has near identical performance to the regular 128MB dedicated Go7400 thanks to Nvidia's TurboCache shared memory technology, which is quite good.

After some rethought, I'm going to ask, could the 7400 also handle near future games, like Battlefield 2142 (FPS) or Company Of Heros (RTS) on medium settings smoothly? Or do I have to go to the x1600 for that...

The system requirements for Battlefield 2142 aren't available yet, so we'll have to wait and see if you can play that one. Not sure about the other game.
-
It will probably play an RTS.
-
I know tha BF2142 will have the same min specs as BF2. It will just be an updated version of the BF2 engine, and will be able to reach higher levels of detail, that BF2 couldnt. So if you can play BF2 @ medium with a good resolution using a 7400, then you should be able to do the same with BF2142. And im assuming what they added to the engine for 2142 is HDR and possibly higher texture resolution at the higher settings.
-
Ah awesome.
The minimum requirements for Company of Heros are:
P4 2.0Ghz
512MB RAM
64mb non-MX video card capable of supporting ps 1.1 or better.
Will i be able to play that on a 7400go? -
7400 go good enough for sports games?
