    7400 problems?

    I just picked up the HP DV8000 today, and I love it.

    Except for one thing...

    I installed Half Life 2, and Garry's Mod.

    Half Life 2 works great.

    When I play Garry's Mod, it gets around 80-100fps then all the sudden it drops to 5-10 fps.

    Can anybody help me explain what's going on?

    Only things that comes to mind is the clock speeds of the graphics card are getting greatly reduced for some reason. But this seems very unlikely since you say it's a new laptop, as this would happen if your graphics card overheated or was not recieving enough power etc. Make sure if you have any options to lower performance to conserve battery life, that they are not being switched on for some reason.

    Are there different effects in the game, like smoke or other particle effects or fancy shadows when this happens?
