Hi, i just bought an asus F3T, and so far i'm really happy with it. It's a nice notebook, especially the graphics card.
My concern is with the temperature of the GPU. When on the desktop doing normal tasks, the temperature is already 75º Celcius. I think this is too hot. Also one time when i was gaming fps suddenly went down a lot, things started to get real slow, so i quit the game to check the temp and it was 96º C! I asume that while gaming it could have even been a little higher....
The point at which the card slows down, according to the temp settings, is 110º C. Maybe i reached this point and thats why it slowed down.....
I know you will all suggest getting a cooler. I'll probably do that. But even without one, it should'nt run this hot....and its brand new so the fans should be ok.
Anyone here with an F3T having similar issues?. Is this normal?. Most people here with the same card report much lower temps.

Whoa that really high temps!!! Since you just bought it I dont think dust in the vents is the problem. The other options I could think of is to open your F3T and see if there is a proper amount of thermal paste on it or it there is way to mush on the chip itself. This might void the warranty so this could be one of those almost to last options before asking Tech Support. Wait for more members to respond before you do anything drastic.
-
I think you should send it to the support. The 110*C is far too high and can even fry the GPU. and there are some things that can go wrong : From defects in the Fan/Heatsink to thermal-paste as Qhs pointed out.
But as I said, it's best to return it to the support if it still has got warranty. -
Thanks...it's only 5 days old so i guess its still on warranty
...
Really strange...maybe the fan isnt working as it should...... -
Definitely you need to check the fans and vents for dust clogs, you might have to open up the panels to see. Use Q-tips and air cans/compressor to clean it out thoroughly. And get a notebook cooler.
but you only had it recently, so it might just be that the GPU is not getting contact with the heatsink to properly cool it down... either check it yourself or send it back it.
Ok, if you havent heard my signature lecture yet, here it is... again:
Remember these things to have your notebook be healthy for years:
1) Battery: to maintain the longevity of any rechargeable battery
- you must NEVER overcharge it [especially for long durations of time] by keeping it plugged into AC
- when it reaches 100% you should unplug it and let it discharge to 5-15%, then plug it back to power
- OR you can just charge it to 50%+ and remove the battery and store in cool place.. not the fridge [remember to use it occasionally 3-4 time a year to charge and discharge it].
2.) Heat: to prevent a healthy notebook from overheating
- ALWAYS use the notebook on a hard & flat surface
- RECOMMENDED to be used on a notebook cooler... namely the Zalman ZM-NC1000
- check your fans underneath occasionally (at least once a month) for any dust clogs [clean them out with Q-tips and air cans/compressors]
- ALWAYS monitor the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, etc..) to watch for fluctuations, which would indicate overheating
By doing these simple things, your entire system will easily last for more than 3 years. -
A cooler would be a worthwhile investment. Refer to the cooling guide as well.

Check our Asus form to see if anyone else is experiencing this. If they aren't then you should take advantage of your warranty and send it in.

I have an F3T but do not experience temps like that.
Doing normal tasks, like browsing and listening to music i hover about 60-65 (thats on Vista) and while gaming I get anywhere from 72-80 depending on the ambient temperature of the room.
I'm curious though, what program are you using to check your temps? the only program that I can check temps with is RivaTuner.... Asus's supplied programs cant even tell! -
I'm checking them in rivatuner, and a program called EVEREST, that displays all sorts of info. Maybe its a driver issue??. Maybe the "temp meter" can get stuck....the thing is when i first turn the notebook on...even after an hour the gpu temp is like 45-50. After i run a game, the temp stays at 73-75 while on the desktop and NEVER goes down again...even when not using the pc for hours.....its like the fan isnt blowing till temp goes below 60...
I'm trying downclocking the core now, and updating drivers...but i dont have expirience on notebook nvidia drivers...i just downloaded the xtremeG mobile force 97.92...are they any good?. As for asus drivers its running the last version.
thanks for the help. -
I have an F3T with the same problem. Got it 4 weeks ago, and used for internet and school works. I want to use it with games too (just waiting for holiday season), but I am afraid of these high GPU temperatures.
I use Everest and Rivatuner to monitor them, right now the temps are:
HD: 36 °C
GPU Ambient: 52 °C
GPU: 77 °C
CPU Core #1: 43 °C
CPU Core #2: 47 °C
CPU: 60 °C
if I find any new info about this, I'll post here. -
Thanks for the info, good to know im not the only one, i guess whe should ask someone at asus if this is normal....my temps right now:
hd: 39
gpu ambient: 56
gpu: 75
core1 : 48
core2: 54
cpu: 60
All in ºC.
except for gpu mine temps are even higher....but anyway...the cpu temps are not that high, under stress they can reach low 70's but thats not so bad isnt it??.
With some underclocking i managed not to hit over 90ºC gpu temp while gaming...but thats still high, i know it can go higher than that without damage, but it shortens its life runnig that hot.... -
I'll send an email to Asus, and post the answer here.
I found 2 topics on Asus Forum regarding the same issue:
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20070227074539803&board_id=3&model=F3T&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20070108061819120&board_id=3&model=F3T&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
Still searching for more info.
EDIT:
just found this update on the asus download page:
'BIOS 223
Support two thermal policy (single/dual) and avoid VGA overheat.'
maybe it's a fix for the high GPU temps.
by the way, my BIOS version is: F3TAS.221 (updated to fix wrong bluetooth reporting problem, the original BIOS was F3TAS.219)
my video driver is the one that comes on the drivers CD (86.02)
to get to the page, go to http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us , then go to the F3T page (use the drop down menus or the navigation wizard) , then click on the 'Latest' tab.
detail: on the 'Map' tab, it isn't listed o_o -
Good research work.... maybe this bios will solve the problem. Mine is the original 219. How did u update the bios? I see there are utilities for DOS and Vista. I'm using XP.
-
This isn't an answer, sorry, but would someone tell me how to find out temps. on my computer hardware?
-
just did the update. problem solved.
steps:
- go to asus download website and.. guess what.. download
the files are: BIOS 223 [F3TAS223.zip] (on the 'Latest' tab), Windows BIOS Flash Utility for Vista [WinFlash_for_BIOS_Utility_vista_070423.zip] ('BIOS' tab)
It says 'for Vista', but works with XP too.
- unpack the files, install WinFlash.
- run WinFlash, select the 223 BIOS (close all programs and save any work in progress before, the notebook will be powered down)
- if the program says the BIOS file is ok (text in red), click on the flash button. The system will reboot to start the flash update process.
- you will get into a DOS like screen, and there will be 3 bars, when the task is finished, the notebook will be powered down.
- I waited 30 minutes before powering up again (just to cool it down)
my temps:
before:
HD: 36 °C
GPU Ambient: 52 °C
GPU: 77 °C
CPU Core #1: 43 °C
CPU Core #2: 47 °C
CPU: 60 °C
after:
HD: 33 °C
GPU Ambient: 41 °C
GPU: 58 °C
CPU Core #1: 36 °C
CPU Core #2: 27 °C
CPU: 60 °C (I don't know why... this one NEVER changes)
I see that the CPU temps are much better too, I ran wPrime (32M test) and the temps where at 45-55, before the update, the temps where at 60-70
one thing I noticed: when I booted up after the BIOS update, the fans where on, and still on (I can hear fan noise). Before the update, the fans where off (or at low rpm, I couldn't hear any noise). This might be the problem within our notebooks. Maybe because of some faulty BIOS programming, the fans stayed off when they must be on.
As I said, I didn't tested it with games yet, if you make the BIOS update, post the temps you get while gamimg, please. By the way, the GPU max temp until now was 60 °C (40 minutes powered on, high performance profile on power4gear).
I hope this info helps you with the problem too.
Regards, mathx. -
I updated the bios...and it worked!!!
before:
hd: 39
gpu ambient: 56
gpu: 75
core1 : 48
core2: 54
After flashing with 223.
hd: 38
gpu ambient: 49
gpu: 65
core1 : 42
core2: 48
Dont know why they're not as low as yours, but a lot better!!.... havent tried gaming yet.
Anyone having issues with heat on F3T should update at least to 223 bios. -

Did this help with gaming?
-
Well, it did not help with me. I can play bit longer without strange lagging, but just one or two minutes. Please answer. Did this help with anyone, with gamin
7600 in F3T overheating??? help!
