I figured i would give vista a try for the first time. I got everything working, no problems, but when i tried to play CS S it was crap. Fine on xp Pro, crap on Vista. Is there any way to fix this? or does Vista just take away performance with my GPU?

Vista did the same thing with my 7200. In my opinion the OS simply wasn't ready for release, especially with so many people revealing these problems.

I can't say much for Nvidia (besides the 8600m, which is awesome), but my ATI X800 works well enough in Vista. CS:S plays just fine at max settings (no AA) at 1680x1050.

Drivers maybe? Make sure you are Windows Updated.

On my Inspiron 9300, which has the very similar (in terms of raw power) Go6800, CS:S performance takes quite a nose dive from the switch to Vista - at 1440x900, full settings + 4x AF and 4x AA, performance drops off from 66.5 FPS average in the stress test in XP Pro to 44.0 FPS average in Vista. Pretty atrocious. In game, the results are very similar - about a 33% performance decrease across the board on that system, in just about every game. There are serious issues with the 6/7 series architecture and Vista, I think. Hopefully drivers/Vista patches will resolve the issue with time, but for now, stick with XP unless you absolutely, positively need Vista.
