Essentially, I'm upgrading my m11x r3, I can't make my mind up if I take the dive with clevo w230st or wait for w230ss whenever that becomes available in Europe (looking at xmg 304). Essentially is the 860m worth the wait and the extra 100£ or so (probably more). Maxwell does look like a nice bump in performance, really tempting... Then again 765m isn't a bad piece of kit costs less and I can have one now...

So yes, need some advice on this...

860M. No contest. It'll use less power than the 765M and thus will likely run cooler. It'll be available in just a few weeks now that it's been officially unveiled by NVIDIA.

I completely agree with Cakefish... well worth the few weeks wait.

Yup, I would also like to agree with waiting for the 860m. It's a better option in every aspect.

From: GeForce GTX 860M vs 765M

    Reasons to consider the
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M

Significantly higher clock speed 1,020 MHz vs 797 MHz Around 30% higher clock speed
Higher effective memory clock speed 5,012 MHz vs 4,008 MHz More than 25% higher effective memory clock speed
Much higher turbo clock speed 1,085 MHz vs 863 MHz More than 25% higher turbo clock speed
Higher memory bandwidth 80.2 GB/s vs 64.1 GB/s More than 25% higher memory bandwidth
Higher pixel rate 16.3 GPixel/s vs 12.8 GPixel/s More than 25% higher pixel rate
Higher memory clock speed 1,253 MHz vs 1,002 MHz More than 25% higher memory clock speed
Front view of GeForce GTX 765M

    Reasons to consider the
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M

Higher texture rate 51 GTexel/s vs 40.8 GTexel/s More than 25% higher texture rate
More texture mapping units 64 vs 40 24 more texture mapping units
More shading units 768 vs 640 128 more shading units

As most of us are not able to replace the GPUs in our laptops, the main consideration is which laptops are available with these cards. There were quite a few thin form factor models available with 765m, including the Aorus X7 with dual 765m cards in SLI. Hoping there will be a similar range of thin models with 860m.

Well, I'm getting the w230ss I guess, hopefully soon. Ideas on when those will hit the shops? Mostly mysn, xmg p304, they seem to have a good reputation plus 2 year warranty for peace of mind.

Appreciate the feedback, will be a difficult wait. Hope they won't be much more expensive ^_^

I would say depends on how fast you need your new laptop. Remember there is usually a 3-4 month delay from release, to actually shipping out new GPUs.

    GTX 860M is miles ahead.
Visit this site and select GTX 860M and GTX 765M and filter. 860M is actually neck in neck with GTX 680M in some games.

Except many vendors will be shipping machines with 860m within two weeks.

Mysn seems to have it on German website already, didn't expect them to be available so fast! Says 1-2weeks wait which doesn't sound bad at all. (xmg p304) so I should have it by end of month I guess. So happy I didn't get the p303 ordered this Monday you don't even imagine :D

    Thanks for the input!
