Greetings,
I am shopping around for a gaming card to go with a new laptop. Currently I am stuck on Sager's two offerings:
1. NP5720C with nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX with 256MB of DDR3
2. NP5320C with ATI MOBILITY RADEON® X700 with 256MB of DDR2
As this list ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568 ) shows, the former is a grander performer than the latter. Go 7800 GTX is also much more expensive, adding about $539 more to the cost of the base price of Sager's laptops. Is the 7800GTX worth the price? How is it different from the x700 and in what ways different will it run my games? Someone once said in these forums that 7800GTX is the best choice for future-proofing your system -- why may this be more so than with x700?

heh...it's like comparing a Ferrari with a Toyota...

If money doesn't matter, you should go with 7800GTX. 7800GTX is EXTREMELY powerful than x700!!

I'm no car expert but I get your drift. Nonetheless, I'd like someone to compare the two...even a quick, basic overview will do.

3dmark05 okay?
X700 256mb 2700-2800
7800GTX 256mb 6100-6500
yeah.... it's huge... -
You can google it, btw in terms of techincal meaning, surely 7800GTX has more pixel pipeline than that of X700, but I forget how many it is.

Pardon me for still being naive, however, how would all this info translate into a better game-playing experinece for me?

To sum up, 7800GTX will deliver smooth-ultra realistic game experience and if your game is FPS like FarCry,Doom3,FEAR all will benefit from 7800GTX. it's a monster of GPU

An x700 is fine for casual gaming (medium res: 1280x800, medium settings), but the 7800GTX will handle everything you through at it at max res (1920x1200 for high-end laptops) and more.
It's important to ask yourself also whether you plan on carrying this laptop around. If you are going to college, business purposes (hah, right), or traveling often, stick with the x700. Your battery (and your lap) will thank you later. -
Say you were playing Oblivion or FEAR on an X700. To get a usable average FPS you may need to compromise on resolution or graphics detail/effects (which is what makes these games so lovely to look at). With the 7800GTX you can crank everything to max and still have it run well.
Oh, and the geek/pimp factor never goes astray either... "OMFG! You've got a 7800GTX!!!11!!!" -
Thank you.
Come to think of it, the 7800GTX is quite harsh on the wallet, especially for a student like me. It is the latest and the greatest, so carries a premium in the price total. I will have to settle for the x700 or hunt for something in between these two boards.
Looking back, my 1st desktop had a 4mb ATI integrated video (Rage), my 2nd desktop had a 64mb ATI dedicated video (Radeon 8500), and my 3rd laptop will have a 256mb of ATI dedicated video (x700) -- I say this is quite a progress for me, though I admiot to having been slow to adapt to the fast-paced world of tech. -
You could easily get a Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 nicely configured for well under $2000 with some nice coupons.

You should look up some of the benchmarks for those cards (desktop versions are fine, the mobile versions will have somewhat less performance, but is still relative). This sort of question is . . easily answered. If you can spend more money and get the higher card, then do so, otherwise, you'll have to search for something else.
