Hello!
I bought a laptop a few months ago with a 780m graphics card, but I've been having problems with it the last couple of weeks, its like the GPU usages wont go over 50% and just keeps jumping up and down, which results in huge lag spikes, even in WoW it laggs so much its unplayable really.
Here is the laptop i bought Vision X-Series X4785 17,3'' bærbar hos MM-Vision.dk Its on danish, but just scroll abit down to see specs.
Ill add some pictures so show my problem.
imgur: the simple image sharer MSI afterburner gpu usage
imgur: the simple image sharer 3dmark 11 test, its 1000 under normal
imgur: the simple image sharer furmark test, which seems weird too..
Anybody know a fix to this problem or anything?

welcome
the first question will have to be have you got the lappy set to high performance.
also what sort of temperatures are you getting for cpu/gpu
lots of monitoring software in my sig below. download core temps and gpuz and run them in the background. -
Yeah I got the laptop set to high performance
Here is everything you asked for : Ups wrong link, posted my HD 4600 usage thing.
Here is the real link : http://imgur.com/q4YuUvQ
edit agian: look here my 780m http://imgur.com/CkjUuAh
And this is while im running WoW, look at my 4600m its using 60% load? isnt that way to much?

Nobody who have this problem or know a way to fix it?
-
try different graphics drivers. thats all i can think of.
is the 780 being used when your playing the game or is it using the HD graphics.
check that wow on the nvidia control panel that its using your dedicated 780. -
Ill try to change to another nvidia driver.
Yeah the 780m are being used, but it seems like the HD4600 has higher LOAD then the 780m.. Is that normal? -
i dont think so but to be honest ive never checked.
i thought once optimus has switched to the 780 the HD4600 should be idle.
last 15 drivers can be found > http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us -
I was thinking exactly the same, I thought the HD4600 just would turn off, but it seems weird that it is running in the background.
I just tried to go back to the 320.49 driver, but didnt help anything... Is it safe to get the newest beta driver or can it harm my computer? -
the latest beta drivers are mainly for battlefield 4 beta testers so if you havnt got B4 loaded i wouldnt bother.
my benchmark scores all took a dive with the beta
compared to whql 314.22
3dmark06 dropped 639
vantage dropped 628
3dmark11 dropped 11
ice storm dropped dramatically from 92907 to 86176 -6731
cloud gate dropped 341
fire strike went up wahoo 84 -
Hmm sounds weird
I am really over my head here, cant find any solution to this problem, guess i'll have to call the place where I bought the computer and get it repaired or whatever is needed.
Thanks for the help tho! -
who did you get it from.
i suppose you could load the intel driver again and then try loading the nvidia after that.
ive always used the old skool method of manual load in safe mode but dont think that will help much.
what sort of scores are you getting for futuremark vantage, 3Dmark and 3Dmark11 -
What the heck, i just downloaded Black ops 2 and it runs with a smooth 100 FPS on ultra???
But when I turn on WoW it just goes completely retarded? -
there is a picture of 3d mark 11 in the first post, I think it is 1000 lower then it should be.
Ill try to do a vantage and 3dmark and post the results after that -
The HD4600 never goes idle, or shuts down. It is the chip that actually sends the output to the display.
Are you able to open the Nvidia Boost 2.0 software? What does it show? Maybe it is set with a max temp of 60C. -
Where do I find the Nvidia boost software? it doesnt seem to be installed to my computer.
I've reached over 60C before, I've been up to 93 when I did my 3dmark 11 test, no idea if thats it. -
It's called GPU Boost. Not sure if your laptop has it.
So, how many games have you tried? Is WOW the only one with the issue? Maybe force Optimus to use the 780M.
A google search turned up something interesting.... a user with the same problem... Oh wait, they have the same name. Maybe someone will have an idea in the Geforce forum.
Have you taken a look at task manager. Maybe something in the background is running and is causing the 780M to briefly not be used. I would kill all back ground programs. Even things that should be OK. -
Yeah, I made a topic in most nvidia forums etc. to get the maximum amount of help.
I dont think i have the nvidia boost thing, and yeah I only tried it in WoW and BF4, which lagged insanely much, but tried it on BO2 a few hours ago and it has a stable 90-120 fps, which is weird, i dont get this.....
I scored 17492 in the vantage, is that normal? -
MSI Afterburner should let you set the max temp of the card. So you can verify it in there.
The 3Dmark score is low. Are you using orginal drivers or updated. Try orginal and updated. Also check the background programs.
Also try the games in Windowed mode. -
nope, something is wrong. when you run it have you get it set to (P) performance benchmark
your 780 should defo be a higher score than my 680
im getting vantage P21773 with my 680 / 3720quad
3dmark06 - 22256
vantage - P21773
3dmark11 - P6180
3dmark
ice storm - 92907
cloud gate - 15871
fire storm - 3945
these scores have all dropped since loading the beta driver. -
The max temp when gaming is around 50-65C. I'd say, doesnt go over much more than that, you can see i took a picture i the first post of MSI afterburner running with WoW running at the same time.
Yeah, I see the 3Dmark vantage score is really low, I am using orginal drivers and I closed all programs before running the test
And I only play games in windowed mode, I dont really like gaming in full screen... It seems like all the 3dmark test are under the normal of what a 780m normally preforms, its really weird. -
I think I'll have to call the place that I bought the laptop from and make them fix it so it preforms as it should, because I really cant find a reason why my laptop shouldnt run at maximum speed. :/
And yeah, I ran the "performance (p) 1280x720)" which only resultated in 6293 -
Have you checked if its throttling? Run something and logg with gpu-z.
-
Try WOW full screen. Also, run process explorer and take a screen shot showing all the programs and processes. Process Explorer
Btw, your 3DMark score should be around 30,000. Your score makes sense if you average the Intel and Nvidia scores together. -
Hi there!
I am thinking of buying the same vision x-series X4785 as you did, and are really looking forward to getting the gtx 780m. But after reading your tread, I am curious to know if you have found a solution to your problem? I would diffidently be bummed if I ordered the model, and had to go through all the same as you, since I don't have near as much "geek-knowledge" as you.. Did you talk to the mm-vision guys about the problem?
