I refuse to buy an AMD card when there is a Nvidia right around the corner imo.

HOWEVER, if AMD was say to release a 75Wish GPU that perform like 580M++ I`d be all over it.

I guess we will see reviews of 7850M soon maybe? Notebookcheck puts it right where GT650M is, both 45W

    Wouldn't a hypothetical 7950M cost less than a 7970M?

from the performance of the 7770 my guess is that it should perform around that margin of the 6990m and 580m, pure guess based on the clocks that we know regarding the 7850m

Seriously? 7850M = 580M/6990M? That would have been soooo sweet. Notebookcheck (yeah I know they don`t know jack about it) puts it at GT 560M

the 560m is based on the 450, and that card loses in terms of performance for the 7770 that the 7850m is based on.

I could be very wrong, though. Its my guess and what I expect.

you have to remove some performance from all cards, dunno about how much

    Judging from this 7870m:
    AMD Radeon HD 7870M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

I reckon 7850m should be above the gtx660m. By the way theres no way a 7850m will be better performance wise then a 580m. I am actually suprised there is so many cards that perform the same. I mean nvidia gt 620m outperforms the 40nm 630m and the 660m outperforms the 670m. I would have liked 1800 3dmark11 of gt 640m and then increase by 600 in 3dmark11 each time not 300 ish each time.

Nvidia kepler cards all apart from maybe the 680m has 384 shaders.

the 660m cant outperform the 670m.

Dunno about the 620m, only saw it on the asus ux32vd review, and only one source, and that source is notebookcheck. And that 620m was a 28nm shrink from the 40nm gt 425m/430m/435m/540m/550m/555m/630m/640m/

As I said Im only guessing on the performance, and I may very well be wrong about it. And never said that the 7850m would outperform the 580m and 6990m, I said that it should be around, meaning close, but not up to that bar.

Is it just me or are amd so interested in APU's that they have given up on pure cpu performance. I know they are still 32nm but even high end core 2 duos still perform similar to them.

the 660m can like on ntebookcheck showed 660m running better on arkham city and even though its slightly less powerful it takes around 50-60w less power consumption.

Anyway just seen 7970m crossfire beast on notebookcheck with m18x r2 and that combo is more powerful then a desktop gtx 680 or desktop 7970 lmao.

    Yes but a desktop gtx 680 or 7970 won't have any SLI/Crossfire issues. :)
If you look at the benchmarks on notebookcheck, several games run better with a single 7970M.

EDIT: Hm, after multiplying the 560 TI by 0.7 (580M is 30% slower than 560 TI), the 5770 isn`t so far away from the 580M.
    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/547?vs=538

But Anandtech also say double performance of 540M, which isn`t even near GTX 560M...

    Confusing

An undervolted 7970M will be faster than a 580M and consume even less power than it does at the moment.

mxm-a is for cards up to 55-60W (memory included) . Quadro 2000M for example is a 55W card yet it is mxm-a. But AMD specs refer to consumption of the chip only and not the whole card so despite 7850M is 45w it may be mxm-b.

Considering that the power suply of the Envy 17-32XX is 120W I bet total consumption of the card is not beyond 60 W. So it would correspond to mxm-a.

So is the GTX660M, but it is MXM-B.

MXM-A cards tends to stick to the 35-40W range.

It looks to be comparable to the 650m, perhaps a little slower for some games.

The 7750m should still be able to run everything at 1080p and deliver a decent framerate.

Well the desktop 7770 competes with the 6850, so I can see the 7800M reaching for the 6970M.

    Awesome, thanks!

Now that this system is out... I am considering cancelling my Alienware m17x (w 7970m) order... but I only have a couple of days to decide... decisions decisions LOL.

From what I've read on the 7850M, there is supposed to be 2GB of memory for it but on HP, it only shows 1GB.... is their version gimped? Will I notice any difference?

So it is pretty accurate to say for now that the 7850m is equal to better than the gt650m and the 7750m is slightly worse or equal to a gt650m?

I remember someone else somewhere saying that the 7850M is equal or better than the 660M.

If you go to notebookcheck.com, their projected ratings put the 660M, 7850M, 650M, 7750M in the bottom half of "Class 1", respectively.

no it isnt. And we are still expecting that the 7850m would be better than the 660m.

And I dont see why everybody is saying that the 7750m is going to be worse than the 650m

I don't know about Supreme Commander or STO, but TOR ran just fine at 1080p, at absolute highest settings possible on my old 5830m from 2009. MMOs are typically not very demanding.

There are some issues with TOR's engine lagging when there are too many people in PvP, but that's a server latency / engine problem, nothing to do with your hardware, as it happens to people with high end desktops as well.

I am with you, I expect the 7750m to be even above the 660m in terms of performance and the 7850 at 580m/675m level.

    We will see soon enough.

well if the 7950m matches with 675m, and 7870m matches with 670m, then the 7850m should matchup with 660m, 7770/7750m with 650m, 7730m with 640m

    just my guess :p.

I expect 7750m to be above 650m but not as much as 660m.. (with an OC maybe) we will see in less than a week haha when i get my envy

what benchmarks do most people take? Ik 3dmark11, vantage, unique engine or w.e, furmark? what is the gpu stressful one?

and just tell me where did you see the 7950m? it would be quite a performance drop, since the 7970m is at least 40% better than the 675m.

well i thought i saw it under teh amd specs page but I just checked and its not there. I must be seeing things? but anyway... if there isnt a 7950m, everything moves up the ladder (unless amd left that big performance gap.. which would be a fail) making the lower ones more powerful. yay :D

To the guy asking if HP gimps their graphics cards: I'd have to say yes. I've got a Mobility Radeon HD 4650 from them that had stock clocks of 550 core and 667 memory. Wikipedia says it should be 550 core 800 memory. Luckily we've got MSI Afterburner, and I currently run mine at 600/810 without any issues.
